Looking to get my first 1911..
So, Ive really been wanting to pop my cherry lately with the 1911's. I have my selection narrowed down to a few.
I want to get the most for my money, but I dont want to spend my life savings either. My current budget is I would say between $800 and $1200. I was drooling over the TRP's, and a few others such as the Colt Gold Cup. These are obviously at the high end of my budget, but I also came across a Springfield Armory Loaded Target for $1k new. I like it, but want to gauge it against the other choices. So in terms of my budget (and the california legal handgun list) what do you think I would be best off with? I want something reliable that I will be able to use for home defense and the coming zombie war, but I also want a few bells and whistles too. I was looking at building up a SA GI for a bit too, but decided I want a lot of the work that I was going to do to it to be done already. So... What do you guys think?? |

I know that Taurus gets a bad rap once and a while, but every, and I mean EVERY guy I talked to at the range that owns one of the PT-1911's absolutely stands behind the gun and marvels at what they got for the minimal dollars spent.
New, you'll see 'em goin 559-599 in black. I got mine for 475 OTD!!! I was looking at a "Loaded" Springer for 889 OTD and figured, save the 400 for ammo, fuel, food. You know, necessities.

I would love to get a PT1911... Only problem is that it is not a CA approved firearm. Damn commies here in Cali need to make everything simple so goddamn difficult.

I was at Springer Precisions web site last night and I'll tell you Scott has a pretty nice STI package.

I bought the same gun that Slider bought. I walked out at $510.00. I purchased a paddle holsters, mag holders and an additonal magazine, and two boxes of TAP ammo for a Grand Total of just over $600.00. I was originally planning on purchasing a $1,500 - $2,000.00 1911, but after some long thought, decided to purchase the Taurus as this would have been my first 1911. I wanted to shoot it, carry it, generally get used to Condition 1, to make sure that is what I would want to normally carry before spending the big bucks. EVERY articale from EVERY magazine I have read states this gun is great and so far, I have the same opinion. The gun is very well built, slide is tight to the frame, and since I have purchased mine, it hasn't been off my side excpet to sleep. Good luck on your purchase.

I got a new Dan Wesson Pointman earlier this year for about $ 800.00.
It shoots very well - looks pretty good too. |
