STI vs. Kimber vs. Springfield

After shooting a 1911 and doing well with it, I'm dead set on getting one now.

STI, Kimber, and Springfield rise to the top of the list as "best in breed" names to go with. I'd like to keep it around $1k, but could be convinced up to $1.5 if there's good value in those dollars.

Let me know what you all think are the best buys out there!

Are you looking at a single stack STI or the 2011 style frame?

Any Springfield product based on the lifetime warranty. I don't really think it is necessary to spend $1500 on your first 1911 though. Good luck!

To clarify: I'm looking for a single stack 1911, and accuracy will be the most important feature as I'm planning on throwing adjustable sights on it and target shooting with it.

I'm really looking at some of Springfield's Loaded models with interest, but I've only shot Kimber before (and I shot it very well). STI makes the list because I've heard people bring them up in many of the other 1911 posts as having great accuracy for the money.

I have owned a Kimber (it was okay) and fired a Springfield (didn't like it), but I have researched STI a little and they seem like they are probably leagues better than the other two. STI makes their pistols in small batches of 15 or something, so it's more custom quality than production line.

And for a $1K, you should be able to get a decent one. In fact, if I didn't have an XD, I'd have gone STI.

You might want to take a look at the Dan Wesson 1911s (through CZ) as a starting point. Great value and pretty accurate pistols.

Bob Serva has recently established a new company called Fusion Firearms making 1911s. Bob has always been a shooter first and manufacturer second so everything he has been associated with has been performance related. The Fusioin 1911s will be near the top end of your price range.

Sti

If you are looking into the Spartan, I know a few guys that love them and a few that would throw them in the trash can. I`m not a fan of the single stack STI. The hi-cap 2011 frame style, yes, I have 2 of them and wouldn`t trade them for anything else out there, except maybe another one just like it.

If I go STI I would be looking at the 5.0 Trojan. Anyone have experience with that?

For Springfield I'm looking at the Loaded model with adjustable sights.

Kimber, it's between the Custom Target II and the Gold Match II.

I'll look into the Dan Wessons (going to make it even harder to choose!)

A friend has a .38 Super Trojan and while it really isnt much to look at, visible machine marks on the slide it is a incredibly accurate shooter and well fit where it needs to be. It locks up like a bank vault and I have shot some of my best groups ever with that gun. My Kimber custom target comes close accuracy wise and my Springfields cant even come close, more due to trigger weight on my springers than anything else as they are both quite accurate when fired off sand bags.

STI Trojan is a top semi production gun for just over 1K there isn't alot that are in the same class. The Trojan has a ramped barrel even in 45 ACP.
