Well, the time has come. The money is in the bank, and I'm going to be shopping around for 1911s at the local shops this week.

Thanks for the heads up on the Kimbers - I'd heard things about their internal safeties mucking things up, but it sounds fairly widespread. If I get a Kimber I may ask the dealer for a return guarantee, no questions asked (several I know of have this policy standard). I'll keep ya posted on what I find

Put my deposit down on one of these:

Kimber - Continuing The Legacy

The gun shop manager was adamant that he owns a Kimber and has sold many and has not seen one that needed to go back yet. Hope I'm not the first, but he's been in the biz a long time.

Should arrive in a week or two.

Lot's of different opinions. I just came back from my local favorite gun shop and after handling several Kimber 1911s he said that 1 in 10 have to go back to the custom shop for work but once they run they are great. I'm still looking but leaning toward one of the Kimber TLE II's he has.

Congrats on your purchase. I hope you dont have any problems, I never had nothing but happiness from my Kimbers.

I would be sure to buy some Kimber KimPro Tac magazine, and throw away the factory supplied one. The one thing I hate about Kimber is the cheap ass magazines they give you with the gun, but all 1911 makers are the same.

Enjoy.

Good choice

I've carried a TLE II as a duty weapon for three years now. Its a fine weapon. I also shoot the same gun in IPDA so I have a few thousand round through the gun now. Mine got a little finickie about 3000 rounds and after a spring replacement all was well again.

Of course Wilson Combats are great too. I just buy Kimber's since they are Kimber and they are much the same in design as Wilsons.
