Springfield Data Point

My bullseye gun is a Springfield. It's a very solid performer. My carry Kimber has the Schwartz Safety arrangement. I'm OK with that added complication for blocking the firing pin on something that spends lot's of time on my hip. For the range exclusively, it's kind of a bell-whistle thing.

If you'll be using light-loaded semi-wadcutters for punching paper, I'll note that my Springfield likes 'em more than the Kimber.

Well...you cant go wrong with any of the guns you are asking about once you hit the 1K $ mark.

Ive had Custom Kimbers, 4 STIs and a couple of SA's. For the money you are talking about....say a Trojan or Guarian STI, TRP or Operator SA or a mid level Kimber.....

As far as accuracy goes.....Id have to give the edge to STI, same with the fit of the gun. My old mans 2500$ LB doesnt fit as well as my last Trojan did.

But the advantages are so minute that they are almost not even worth bringing them up.

If you are looking at dropping close to 1500$.....hold out and check your local want ads. I just passed on a 1000$ Les Baer Commander that was LNIB!...now that wasnt easy to say the least.

Shoot well and god bless

My STI Spartan is one of the most accurate guns that I own and it has fed flawlessly for several thousand rounds. If you want the Trojan, your going to be just as happy.

The Trojan is awesome and much better than anything from Kimber or Springfield in its price range.

If I could get a Trojan without the "5th Grader with an Etcher" design on the side I probably would hehe j/k

Will probably be buying something in July with some of my bonus money. Leaning towards Kimber at the moment, but it sounds like they might be finicky with certain ammo.... which I'm not keen on...

I don't like the billboard on the Trojan either, but its a great 1911. Springfields have a lot of junk printed on them as well.

STI, Kimber, and Springfield rise to the top of the list as "best in breed" names to go with. I'd like to keep it around $1k, but could be convinced up to $1.5 if there's good value in those dollars.

Let me know what you all think are the best buys out there!
Skip out on the new Kimbers the Series 2 firing pin Swartz safety brings more problems with it than its worth. STI is the best of the choices you listed in my opinion with Springfield not being a bad choice either. Don't get Kimber unless you find a used Series 1 gun that is at least 8 years old. I like the Trojan. I have one in 9mm.

Here is my Series 1 Kimber that I purchased back when they first started making pistols.

Pat

If the etching on the slide bothers you that much you can have it removed by a refinisher im sure. it wouldnt be that hard to remove yourself if its that much of an issue.
Heres my STI Spartan with some cosmetic changes
