First 1911
Does anyone think that a SA TRP operator is a bit much for a first 1911? Ive shot many other models but like this one the best. But is it overkill for a first 1911? opinions please.

absolutely not... some may say that you should start with a Milspec and then decide what you like, but if you already know what you like, i say "go with it!"

If you have the cash, go for it. Shooting a nice 1911 is a real joy.

Go for it ! My first 1911 was a Wilson CQB, I am glad I started with an awesome pistol with every feature I wanted. Next pistol might be a mil-spec that I upgrade piece by piece, but only if I want to for fun!

I very seriously considered it as my first 1911. I compared it with the Lightweight Operator and went with it instead. It had all the features I wanted and less weight to carry. It shoots great! Springfield Armory Chapie+ |

i wouldnt say so at all. i have a friend who had a S&W, trade it for a TRP, then trade the TRP for a Wilson Combat... it seems it you get what you want the first time and can cut out a lot of trouble.

If you got the scratch go for it! I would love me a TRP in Armorykote black, that thing is damn sexy. I have always wanted the TRP for my first 1911 but they are pricey. About the only thing I dont like about them is the word "TACTICAL" on the slide, but I am sure I could learn to live with it.

Not at all. My first 1911 was(still is) TRP Operator with full rail. You can see it on my sig. I liked it so much that i sold my XD-SC 9mm and Steyr M1A-40 to buy another TRP Operator. Both has %100 ever since I got em. To me a 1911 feels better, shoots better and conceal better. I have to warn you though this is an addiction which will never stop.
