I have the Ed Brown Special Forces which is essentially the same gun. I did have a problem with the plunger tube coming loose - easily fixed with the right tool. Other than that issue it is a great shooting gun and has fed everything I have given it with a bunch of magazines - in fact it is on my hip as I type this in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II.

It comes down to fit and finish and tolerances. If you're speaking about entry level 1911s, such as the Kimber Custom II and Springfield Loaded, than yes, an Ed Brown is in a whole different league. However, both those companies make some great 1911s of their own.

The Kimber Super Match II is an awesome pistol. Its Kimber's top of the line 1911 and retails over $2K. However, its worth it and it shows just how good Kimbers can be.

Kimber - Continuing The Legacy

Springfield gets even better. Their best is the TGO1 and its every bit as good as any Ed Brown or other popular high end, semi custom 1911s. They retail at about $3200, which is a few hundred more than the Professional. The finish is a two tone Robar and just incredible.

Actually, the Kimber Super Match is a full stainless gun, with the KimPro coating on the slide.

Its the TGO1 that has the two tone Robar finish. Its a carbon steel gun, which is better than stainless, with Roguard on the slide and NP3 on the frame. I think its one of the best finished 1911s you can buy, even better than hard chrome.
