forty5fan,
WOW! That sight looks really great! Is your front sight a "dot" sight? I have 3 dots on mine and I am not a fan of 3 dots but I tried holding a gun with "black" rear sight - no dots and a dot front sight and I really liked it. Is that what you have? How did you know how far to put your rear sight - place it? Chapie+ |

No dot on front sight. When I installed rear sight I just centered it on the slide since its adjustable.

There's no need to know where to place the sight. It goes into the Novak cut, so there's only one way to mount it. As for accuracy.....someone asked about this. I replaced my non-adjustable Novak sights with these (I paid ~$29 for them using the coupon, and the gun shop I bought the gun at did the switch for me for free....(another advantage of dealing local, not on the internet). The Novak was pretty accurate at the distance I shot - it seemed zeroed in at around 30 feet. With the adjustables, I can zero in at any distance (for practical purposes) and with different ammo. The LPA sights are easy enough to find on-line with prices, so it's obvious that $29 is a very good price. I also bought a few of the magazines for (IIRC about $8 each). Like someone else mentioned, I didn't know what kind of magazines they were and with all the raves about Wilson Combat (and some others), I didn't want to get stuck with too many second rate magazines just because of what seemed like a good price. I could not have been more wrong. I had called SA customer service and they would not tell me who their supplier was for their magazines, so I just got a few and hoped for the best. As it turned out, I got what SA seems to always use (at least in their "loaded" models and up...including the FBI "Professional"......Metalform mags, which are IMO and in the opinion of others, top notch magazines. I've had my 'loaded" for about 4 years or so now and all of the magazines have run 100% - not one single jam or hiccup of any kind. Our fellow member "invssgt" is IMO one of our most knowledgeable 1911 guys here. According to his opinion, Metalform magazines are THE way to go. Good enough for him, certainly that's good enough for me. And four years and thousands of rounds of every kind of cartridge proves it out in my book. I didn't recall the bushing wrench being on the coupon, but they are certainly cheap to start with. In fact when I bought my gun they gave me a bushing wrench (along with a few boxes of range ammo, a box of SD ammo (HydraShocks IIRC) and 10 or so range passes. The bushing wrench was fine as a "throw-in", but a stiff piece of plastic (anything that won't scratch the muzzle) would be just as good if you use the two piece guide rod. As someone said, you can push down on the plugh (with the hole for the guide rod) with your fingers...just not very comfortable. But you do get used to it. The bushing only needs to be moved a very tiny bit. From there (in both directions) it's only a small fraction of an inch, and your concern is more with keeping the plug and spring from flying off. If I ever decide to carry the 1911, I suppose I'd go back to the snag=free Novak sight. But for a target gun (what it is to me now), I much prefer the adjustables.(LPA....don't know why SA keeps it a "secret"...they say "LPA" right on them). Peace, D.

Delija,
Do you have pics of your magazines? The mags that came with mine seem really, really cheap. I had trouble loading one mag - like burr on it, and it didn't load the first round of 230 grain FMJ Winchester White Box. I'll get pics posted. The gun is very, very accurate but the mags are disappointing. Chapie+ Quote:
