Since buying this gun, my self esteem has dropped quite a bit. I feel like a fu*king idiot trying to break it down and put it back together.
On another note, I noticed a tiny bit of rust of my barrel and I haven't even shot the thing yet. I know its from my sweaty mits groping it but it still sucks being that it is brand new. Any suggestions on what to do? I can clean it right up but is it necessary to let springfield have a look at it?

depends on the rust...how big, how deep, etc.
if it comes off nice with breakfree then you should be ok. Just keep it clean and well oiled.

maybe you should go to whoever you bought it from, dealer or individual, and ask them to show you how to disassemble and reassemble it. i've had folks go so far as to bring a video camera and make a tape of me doing disassembly/reassembly after telling them several times how it's done (back in my days with an FFL and selling guns to people).

Anyway, I decided to try and take my brand new 1911 apart before going to bed. That was stupid. So I got the slide off the gun and then tried to remove the recoil spring and barrel. It was like I had a check list of stupid things to do while taking a 1911 down and was checking each one off. It is best to do this when awake and thinking. Anyway, the you tube videos were helpful and I got it back together and then took it down the right way. After a while you get the hang of it. I still need to get it back to Springfield. The slide won't lock back after shooting both of the mags that came with the gun dry. I did that a few times and it still doesn't lock back. Also, the first round doesn't load (when locking slide open, inserting loaded mag, and then hitting the slide release). The rounds were factory (winchester) 230 grain full metal jacket. So that was a bummer, but man that gun shoots great. Incredibly accurate gun and fun to shoot. I called SA and they emailed me a Fed Ex shipping label to send it back. I am still very impresed with the gun. It is a Light weight operator. Chapie+ |
