I like Gun Butter for all my guns. Its expensive but it does not stink, stays where you put it, and does not collect dirt and dust. Great stuff. If you have not tried it already I would highly suggest it. A small bottle of Gun Butter lasts a really long time....good investment. |

I've used just about everything and I like weaponshield. It was created by George Fennell, the guy that created fp-10, and it's really outstanding stuff. He guarantees it will lighten a trigger with use and I was a sceptic but I agree with him. It smoothes out triggers but you will notice it more in sigs, glocks, etc. It has a light pleasant smell, kind of a light cinnamon smell, and it's synthetic. He was giving away 1 oz samples a while back and I got one, I have since bought a 16oz bottle and love it. If you try some of the other forums you can find threads where George was giving away the stuff and the comments it got, great stuff. I like it better than gun butter, but then it's a clp you can clean with also. It gets stuff hoppe's 9 misses, I still have to use hoppe's sometimes though for the smell.
Welcome to Weapon Shield - Cleaner, Lubricant, and Preservative for Weapons Here is where george gave samples for review: Free 14 day offer - Weapon Shield CLP - TheFiringLine Forums new gun lube from George Fennell - 1911Forum I have nothing to do with weaponshield, just VERY happy with it. Oh, I like a little enos' slide glide on the rails, makes them like they are on ball bearings.

Use grease or Gunbutter on a carry gun. I like Tetra gun grease. Oil will migrate/wick away and leave your holster/pocket oiled, not the gun. Militec sucks IMO. "Might" be OK as a dry lube, but everything else suffers (horrible at corrosion resistance).
Check the very last photo for a Militec comparison on long term corrosion. Corrosion Protection Products for Rifles, Shooting, Benchrest Competition, Varminting and Firearms Storage |

I use synthetic fishing reel grease on the rails of my 1911 (and all my semi-autos except my pocket carried Kel Tec-which I don't want "wet" for obvious reasons). For the rest of whatever needs to be lubed I use whatever's around...usually Breakfree CLP, or that stuff (can't remember the name offhand) that comes packaged with Kel Tec guns...I just like the smell, and since I clean and lube all my guns after each range session, I don't think it makes that much of a difference what I use...the guns are always clean
....probably a can of synthetic oil (like Mobil One) would be fine and enough to last several lifetimes. My semi-auto .22s seem to like being dirty and dry... Peace, D.

As for BMW having a 'deal' with Castrol, they very well might, but the reason M1 is not approved for many of their "M" engines is that Mobil 1 does not meet the ACEA A3/B3 and BMW LL-01 (M1 is a grade three synthetic, the 'better' stuff is grade 4) standards that they require. Castrol sells a oil in Europe that does (not the same as the stuff they sell here) and that is the oil that BMW requires in some of its engines. The M1 simply does not hold up to extended high RPM runs in some of these engines. |

Sorry the 1911 runs best almost dripping. Any kind of oil thicker than 3in1 works great with a 1911, I've even used 10W40 to keep one running in a extended shooting session with cast bullets.
