My slide has a weak, but noticeable magetism...

...that normal? I only have one 1911, stainless slide and frame and I just notice it tonight. Anyone else experience that? Will it matter?

Shouldn't hurt a thing. Shoot it a bunch and the pounding the slide takes as it cycles will likely destroy the magnetic field in the metal. Magnets do not usually like impacts.

Gore's nutty idea
Gore proposed last week that the United States "commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years."

Not just all new electricity, mind you, which would be challenging enough. But all existing electricity, too.

You can magnetize ferromagnetic metals in a few different ways. I know in a dire survival situation you can make a floating needle compass by stroking a sewing needle through your hair several (very very many) times in the same dirrection. The oils from your hair "should" make the small needle float in still (again, very). The needle will move to magnetic north.

Now that survival land-nav class is over, there are a few other methods. You can rub a magnet over the metal in one direction many times. This will temporarily magnetize the object. A hard strike will demagnetize the object also.

Another way, that I have not tested... is to find the north south line (using a compass) and hold the object along this N/S line. Tap the object keeping it aligned N/S and with enough taps it magnetizes a little bit. I've heard you can also magnetize the same way by a few hard strikes. I have experienced my hammer at work being magnetic sometimes and other times not, but I never gave it much thought. I suppose sometimes it gets swung in a perfect N/S fashion.

I noticed the XD was magnetic a long time ago when I set it near my computer monitor and it distorted the color when it came within a few inches of it. I stripped the gun and all components in the entire upper half are magnetic, slide, barrel, guide rod, and spring. It was like this brand new out of the box and after 6000+ rds it's still the same.

Keep that slide away from electronics.

Well, I have rubbed it through my hair at all...

Or rubbed a magnet on it at all, let alone in one direction...

Nor have I tapped on it at all let alone tapped on it while holding it aligned with the north/south line...

I guess it's my personality.

Hahaha. Must be. I actually wonder if the "tapping it while N/S" thing would take effect if you held it N/S and popped a few rounds off.
