Emp

I wasn't really planning on buying it, but there it was and I couldn't stop myself. The trigger on this thing is sooooo sweet. I have not shot it yet, taking it to the range tomorrow.

BTW, this is going to be my wife's carry gun.

I am still on the fence about the 1911. I am not sure what it is about it but my XD's are the only guns I own. I like the no external safety to deal with and no hammer. I have shot a couple of 1911's and man I will agree they are sweet and accurate(I can shoot it more accurate than my XD45). I don't think the mag capacity is a big deal to me. If the hammer is not pulled back, does it act as a DA trigger?

No, it's strictly single action. The EMP holds 9 + 1, which is more than enough I think.

Sweet piece!!! I just got back to Florida from a four month "visit" to Mn....I saw one EMP in a shop in Minneapolis and it was something like eleven or twelve hundred. I just was over at my local shop here in Fl....and I asked about the EMP, and was told they can't even get them (they said the same about the little Ruger ...the .380 "Kel-Tec' homage)...they have 23 deposits on the Rugers.

I used to have a full size 9mm 1911, but it was just too big and heavy for a carry gun. This EMP seem like an ideal CCW piece. And I agree...9+1 should be plenty of capacity. I had an XD9 Subcompact (10+1) and for me personally, it was just too wide a gun to carry. I have (don't carry) an all steel 1911 in .45acp ---I don't carry it for the same reasons I didn't carry my 9mm 1911, but while the things both weigh considerably more than the XD Sub, I still prefer the slimmer profile if I had to choose one to carry.

The EMP with 9+1 as opposed to a full size 1911 with 7+1 seems like an ideal compromise.

Is the EMP a single or double stack? Is it slimmer than the XD?

I'm still kind of confused as to the differences to the shooter (if any - other than caliber) between the EMP and the Springfield "Micro"......I'm guessing the EMP may be more reliable since it was designed to be that size and shoot that caliber, but I haven't really heard much on this topic. Certainly the "Micro" is less expensive (in the GI version....maybe even in the "Loaded" version too????).

Peace,
D.

Boy! That is the smallest 1911, ever. It's a sweet firearm, but much too small for my hands.

Single stack, and definitely slimmer than the XD.

I think the Micro is a bit bigger in the hand. They didn't have one at the shop though.

I wanted a 9mm because the .45 is too much for my wife.

Comparison

Here's some comparison shots between the XD Sub-Compact and the EMP.

The emp was completely designed for and around the 9mm cartridge from the ground up while the micro's were just a chopped full size with a few exceptions in small parts possibly.

and Mr. Foo i am truely envious of your emp I've wanted one since i first saw them in pre production and even more since i've held a few...i dont think i could give an emp to my wife unless i already had one. your a much better man than i to get hers first and i say that because there's like a 96% probability you'll either commendeer hers or buy one for yourself.
