$929 is GREAT price. When I bought my first one, When they first came out I paid $989. When I went to buy my second one the price went to $1399. The owner of the shop sold me my second one for $1000 even sine I am such a good customer.

You guys are about to have me convinced. I have been back and forth over this all weekend. After doing a little searching the net, I have found tons of great reports on the EMP. Already have an XD9 SC, an XD45 Tactical (5") and an old Ruger 9mm. But, this EMP looks like a great carry gun. And, it seems to be at a great price to boot.

Oh well, I have until Tuesday to decide. The gun shop that I found it at is closed on Mondays. I am an archery nut, how did I get so hooked on handguns anyway?

We had an EMP in a course and it was basically a 200 round pistol . Once it got dirty it stopped running reliably. Now I guess that 200 rounds is fine for a defensive pistol, but it was still a little disconcerting to see a pistol that costs a thousand dollars now work as well as a G19, XD 9 or a compact CZ, all available at half the price. THat said, when it ran, it was a sweet shooting little pistol.

I don't list my guns - I know glocks, FALs, and AKs but I'm not sure my ability to fill a gunsafe with guns make me an expert on anything.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.

foo,

It's spooky to go back and read your older posts. I've not seen this thread, and having gone through my love/hate relationship with the EMP it looks like I have experienced many of the failures you've related.

Failure to go into battery on the first round of a newly loaded magazine was the biggest problem. It was over 10% at first and trailed off to less than 5% after around 160 magazines.

Then, after a few hundred rounds the EMP started failing to lock the slide after the last round. I put a drop of oil on the plunger tube's forward pin and that cleared it up for another hundred or so rounds.

The straw that broke this camel's back was when I couldn't field strip it the last outing to check out what I could do about the return of the slide-lock-failure problem. I couldn't get the slide off at the range (without getting frustrated, spray painting it orange, and flinging it towards the clay-pigeon range next door).

Once I got it home and was finally able to convince the slide to come free I had a hard time getting it back on. That was when I noticed the source of the third problem. The ejector worked loose.

I sent the pistol back after having run about 800 rounds through it in about three weeks. It seems like months, looking back. I am pretty confident it will come back from Springfield better than new, but still worried that the ejector will eventually work loose again.

The last few days I've been looking at my empty holster and lusting after a Kimber Ultra Carry II. I really wanted the EMP to be my daily carry - a reliable go to gun. So far I've held off getting the Kimber. Any thoughts, advice?

EMP-less in Arkansas,

Ed

It will feed 1-2 magazines ok, then it will fail to go back into battery when you load a new magazine. I tried the slingshot and I tried the slide release lever, it didn't seem to matter.

I field stripped it, wiped it down. Applied some breakfree, and tried it again. Still had problems.

I tried not loading the magazines to full capacity, but it didn't matter.

A couple of times it seemed like it was trying to feed two rounds, because when I would drop the magazine after it failed to go into battery, there would occasionally be a round in the chamber and the round in the magazine would be partially forward. (But this didn't happen everytime.)

I give up. I am calling Springfield in the morning to start the RMA process. I know they will fix it, but its frustrating.

Ed, I'm happy to report the EMP is functioning 100% now. I've got at least 1000 rounds through it since I got it back (about 100 of those are hollow points) and took a defensive pistol class with it where it functioned flawlessly and produced the tightest groups in the class.

Don't give up on it yet.

At this moment my wife is traveling and has it on her person should she need to protect our most precious cargo. So I definitely have high confidence in it.

I purchased an EMP and had some FTF problems with some hollow points. Springfield had me send it to them to check out. They did a few things and sent it back about a week later. No more problems. It is now my carry gun. What a great little pistol.
