i have shot the springfield gi model 1911 which is a great pistol. accurate, good trigger, etc. the operator is springfield's tactical model, i have heard good things about it. but in my opinion the kimber 1911's are the best in the business. i own a TLE II and it has never done me wrong, ive fired all kinds of **** thru it and never has given me any problems. they are a bit more pricey, i picked mine up for about 950, not too bad compared to some other 1911s costing upwards of 2 grand plus.

Depends on the $$ you're willing to spend. Check out the other thread going on 1911?s - much pictures, etc. of the top end ones. 1911's??
My personal experience and opinion is Wilson Combat or Les Baer. But it you're intent on Springfield, then get one of the higher end models.

If you only want a SA, the Champion is nice. I would like a Ed Brown Kobra Carry, they are about $2200.00 though. A Dan Wesson CBOB is also nice and only cost about $950.00.

Look at the Dan Wesson line of 1911's. I own a PM7 and love it. As far as value goes for what you get it is hard to beat this line!

I love my MC Operator...you can pick one up for just over a grand.

The SA 1911 Loaded Target models are sweet. That's what I have. Hell of a gun for $750 with factory target sights.
Personally, the sky is the limit with 1911's, but the major features one would want such as a lightweight firing pin, target sights, match-grade barrel, tight slide fit, beavertail safety, skeletonized hardware, lightweight crisp trigger with minimal creep, and many other features are all present in the "loaded" models. Anything higher is just improving on the necessities, imho.

I own a Colt Series 80 1991-A1. It's nice weapon; however, they have doubled in price since I bought mine!! The SA G.I. would be a good starter to work on. The options are endless on the 1911 models. I guess it depends on how much you want to invest. GOOD LUCK on your search. By the way, that XDSC 40 is a SWEET carry weapon
