check out the STI Spartan. For a sub $600 1911, they come loaded. It has a FO front sight and a bomar style adjustable rear sight.

I bought a SA 1911 A1 Mil Spec for my first 1911. I recommend the Mil Spec version over the GI. You get the higher sights, beveled mag well and flared eject port plus a few others I'm forgeting. It's a good platform to modify if you decided to keep it and has a great re-sell value if you don't. Plus you have SA's warranty. I've never had a problem with my SA Mil-Spec. Get good mags and it will eat anything. 1911's are a lot like women, decide how much you want to commit & spend before you get serious.

Thats like poetic. I'm writing that down.

My only suggestion for a 1911 is to make sure it has a beavertailed grip safety. At least with me that seems like a good thing IMO. The first 1911 I shot(Sig GSR) had one. The next one I shot didn't(RIA). I had to set the RIA down after a while and look at the deep red welt forming between my thumb and forefinger. The part of the grip safety below the hammer was digging in deep on my hand(I think that naturally I have a high grip so a plain grip safety could work perfect for you). I was able to get through the remainder of the ammo, but I had a good little bruise there for well over a month.

This is just my own personal preference though and you should try out any firearm you are looking to purchase to see what fits your hand, income, and personal likes.

I had the same problem this weekend, even though mine does have a beavertail. I still have the bruise also. It turned out to be the thumb safety. I dremeled the squared corner off and made it nice and smooth. I also polished it to a mirror shine. It already feels much better, even though I haven't fired it yet.
