I'm buying into the 1911 crave lately and think I want one for concealed carry. I had wanted a J-frame, but why have 5 rounds of .38 when I can have more of .45 right? So I'm looking at a Para Ordnance 3", or a Kimber Ultra...Hows the para match up? I like the price tag a little better, lol.

Here's a 3.5" Para CCO: ![]() This one came with night sights, but I added the arched MSH and the Pearce frontstrap cover. (I like 'em. This one took some chamber polishing (kinda strange because of a fully ramped barrel) and finding out that Para recommends TW25B as a lubricant (SS guns need to be wet!), before coming together at about 100 rounds. I consider that normal for any 1911.... Shoots well, is adequately accurate for carry, and I like the stock grips, too Para's new PDA in .45ACP (or 9mm if you can tolerate it) looks to be a very fine gun, too, but kind of expensive. A 3" LDA, I believe.... I'm going to try to look at a Springfield Micro Compact in the next couple days - 3" SA. Not real super tiny, but the one I've shot was excellent. (My range buddy picked up a 9mm EMP a little while back, and I'm jealous of the size. I just don't want 9mm. The Micro isn't a lot bigger.... Para's talking about a .40, too, in the PDA line. I think I'd look at that,too....) LDA's are a strange bird if you're not used to it. Old wheelgunners (i.e., me), or striker folks (XD, M&P) seem to find it comfortable. Although it really is an SA, the feel is different. (I've got two of them....) Finally, I've got a 4" Kimber "Compact Custom". All steel, no Swartz safety (pre-Series II), Officer's size. Same grip and MSH treatment, and XS "Small Dot" night sights. A little bigger, a little heavier, SA, but easy to carry, and within the limits of the XS sights, a tack driver. My only complaint about my XD9SC is that it's kinda chubby for what you get. I really didn't care much about Concealed Carry with it - I bought it for my daughter to use as a "house gun", but she's not been willing to take it yet. (If her VP choice wins, she won't be able to The 1911 is a different experience.... IMHO, a great way to go, but when I compare my full-sized M&P .40 and a full sized 1911 clone, the M&P is only a little bulkier - certainly a non-issue for uniform carry, and not bad for concealment either. Just seems to me that the "compact" Tupperguns stay too fat as the slides shrink. (Just for laughs, check out the S&W CS9 and CS45. These are based on the Model 39 design. The CS9's kinda nice, too, but a little big. The CS45 is sort of a 1" thick PPK/S. 6+1.... The first shot - DA/SA - is about 12# and you can't thumb-cock it. After that, not bad, and recoil's not a problem. But it's still just plain goofy....) Regards,

Rock Island Armory in a Galco NSAII IWB Holster.
It does the job I only paid $45 for it used. I needed something quick and cheap and I came across it on evilbay. My only complaint is that it sometimes it will shift and need to be repositioned but that depends on how snug/loose the waist of my pants are. My plan is to eventually get a tuckable holster for my XD and then to carry it when I need wear my shirt tucked in.

With the Para you will either get a good one or a miserable POS mine was the POS, Really a shame as I loved the LDA pull and the officers grip frame/commander slide combo. A friend has one of the original CCW LDA's and other than a problem with undersized grips, Replaced by Para right away it has had no issues in over 3,000 rounds. If I looked at mine wrong it broke.
