you know all these 1911's are very nice but if it's only going to be a range/hd gun then why spend 1600.00 or more when something like a SA GI or MIL SPEC would be perfectly fine, reliable, and fun to shoot.hell i'm getting the gi champion for ccw and the only thing it needs is new sights no other fancy upgrades it works just fine the way it is unless your gonna be taking headshots or extreamly difficult shots on a regular basis and even then add a match barrel and your set.JMO those high end 1911's are awsome hell i see a les baer in my near future but i would never buy one if it was only going to sit on a nightstand,in the safe, and only occasionally be shot at the range. JMHo man go simple yet reliable and accurate and SA's basic lines fit this bill nicely.

Those two articles are prime examples of why I have never bought a 1911. I like the looks, feel of them, and they are accurate shooters however, almost every time I have seen a FTF, FTE, or stove pipe with a pistol, it has been a 1911.
I will only buy guns I know have an extremely high percentage of going bang and reload every time I pull the trigger, thats why I own a wheel gun, and an XD. |

The 1911 pattern is proof that God lives and that he loves mankind.

Here are my two Wilson Combat 1911s: CQB and Professional. Expensive, but utterly reliable and dead-on accurate. This is what you get for $2K+ for 1911s.

The link on Kimber deals with only one of their many models. You don't judge an entire company based on alleged problems with a few examples of just one model. If that were the case, you would have to rule out Springfield, since I personally have owned a Springfield that was an absolute LEMON, and went promptly back to my local gun shop. The head gunsmith took a look at it and pronounced it to be---in his words---"A defective POS". The owner then promptly gave me a store credit for the full purchase price of the weapon. And I'm certainly not the only person in history who's had problems with Springfields. Hang out at some ranges, gun shops, gun shows and internet forums with the old-timers and other experienced shooters, and you'll find that Springfield has had their fair share of quality control problems over the years. Of course, just because Springfield has produced a few lemons over the years, doesn't mean they suck as a whole. Likewise with Kimber. The following elite units use Kimbers as their official pistols: U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command LAPD SWAT Team LAPD Special Investigation Section USA Shooting Rapid Fire Pistol Team |

I really envy your collection! But DAMN!!! what do you do with all those 1911's? What's the point?
Also, I have an SA Loaded. I could not imagine a finer gun, but I have never shot anything nicer. So what makes a $2000 plus gun better than my $750 one? Not aesthetics, but in function, fit, accuracy, and trigger. My trigger has like 1mm or less of takeup, a clean break, and a very low overtravel. I even sometimes double shoot accidentally it's so light.

Hmm... I'd suggest a standard Springfield Loaded if you're looking for a reasonable price.
If budget is no concern at all, why not order a PX9111 from the Springfield Custon Shop? The PX9111 is the FBI HRT 1911 built to exact specs of the actual thing.
