9mm 1911?

how do yall feel about a 1911 in 9mm? Any pros/cons to this format? I am looking into something sub-compact for my carry weapon. The kimber ultra-compact II is looking real nice to me any suggestions?

1911's are made for .45ACP and in some cases .38 super.

ANY other caliber is heresy!

Aside from my personal beliefs...

I think a compact 1911 frame lends itself to 9mm very well..
More so than a 3'' barrel .45 1911.

I feel great about. I have a SpringField EMP chambered in 9mm and I am looking into getting a fullsize 1911 chambered in 9mm.
With the way ammo prices are going up everyday. 9mm seem the only way to go at least for me.
I got rid of my .45 1911 because it wad costing to much to shoot. I am saving up so I can start reloading 45 and 9mm.

Well...I know some like them, but to me, its kinda like buying a V6 Mustang. Why? Isn't the reason you go for a 1911 is the 45 ACP round?

I am sure that some have 9mm 1911s that work well, but the gun was not designed for it and some have reliability issues with 1911s in calibers other than 45ACP.

I always ask anyone that is looking at a 9mm 1911...why not a Hi-Power? They were designed (by the same guy) for the 9mm and are very similar and are very reliable and the chances of getting a Hi-Power that flies right all the time are greater than getting a 9mm 1911 that works right. They cost about the same and a nice HP can run less than many 9mm 1911s...so why not a Hi-Power?

The Hi-Power is the most 1911-ish 9mm out there and is a really great shooter.

...thats the route I took...the 1911 is for 45ACP and my Hi-Power is for 9mm...it seems to create less hassles that way.

Yeah, i'm feeling that I may have to hit up the 45acp for the 1911. Your opinions have been very valuable in helping me understand this better. Thanks again!

Just remember, THEY ARE OPINIONS! And, we all know what opinions are like

I'll admit, I like the style of the 1911 but I do not hold in so high esteem as some of our brethren. In my OPINION, it depends on how well you shoot it.
If you get a .45 just to impress someone else, eventually, you will be disappointed. If you get the 9mm and get good with it, you will feel secure and proud of yourself. You will not have to worry about impressing anyone else!

If you're feeling the pinch, due to prices now, you'll just go deeper into debt with the .45. If you want to have more fun, (no price saving, cause you'll shoot more) get a loading machine. Load your 9mm until you can truly afford a .45, then get the new dies and continue loading for both.

The way prices are going up on the ammo, you're likely to find the price of .45s going down.

I've got a .38 Super 1911, and really like it. Shoots like a 9mm, very accurate, and you get 1 more round in the magazine. I don't get feed problems, but depending on the magazine sometimes the slide won't lock back. If you reload, this round is great, load it up, load it down, it likes it all.
