copy and paste this into your search bar and read the article it comes from Guns&Ammo's Complete Book Of The 1911 the 2006 edition. I have this book myself. Anyways the article is by Patrick Sweeney and is called abusing 1911's for fun. He takes 2high end and two low end 1911's and puts them through tourture tests....this is a very good article if you want to see what 1911's can withstand and its just some of the tests that have been done...This is why the 1911 is the greatest semi-auto ever IMHO few other guns would have survived these tests let alone shot without malfunctions.

As I understand it, the tighter the tolerances on your 1911, the less reliable but more accurate it will be.

So if you go crazy with minute-of-arc accuracy, your gun may jam at the scent of mud. If you get something more like what we used to field in WWI, WWII, and 'Nam, you'll have minute-of-badguy accuracy and will feed more reliably.

I have/had two problem 1911 guns.

#1 was a very early SN Sig GSR. There were acknowledged problems with these. It's fixed now.

#2 is a brand new Colt 04860XSE LW Commander. Very picky about the mags it will work with. In fact the supplied Colt mags suck. They fail in all my 1911s. The rear sight set screw also was shooting loose every 10-15 rounds since it seems that Colt ran out of Loctite.

On the other hand I have had good luck with all my S&W, Dan Wesson and SA 1911 firearms.

Imagine the dirt and grime it went throught being in the trenches on your hip, or waist deep in some swampy area of Vietnam! yet i've never heard of someone doing an outrageous torture test to it? I guess its already proven so it wouldnt need to be tested further. thoughts?

anyways I've been planning to get a plain jane version for a long time, and its coming this summer (God willing)
Korea: It truely is the forgotten war.

I will say the 1911 safety is the arguably the best. There's a thread on a 1911 forum of a guy that had his brand new Springfield 1911 fall out of his backpack while doing 90+ on a motorcycle. The case apparently shattered on impact and the 1911 tumbled down the highway. He went back and found it and it was trashed. the grips broke off, the frame grip was bent and there was a gouge in the hammer where it hit the pavement. The hammer never dropped and Springfield managed to fix the gun.

My dad had an MC accident on HWY 20 just west of Fort Worth around Weatherford. His Glock 17 flew out of his bag when it got shredded by the pavement and tumbled down the road.

Result
Chipped front sight
Chipped guide rod
Few Scratches
Still Shootable

Department Armorer installed a new front night sight and replace the guide rod/spring even though the weapon was still operational. Weapon was condition one during crash no discharge.

Weapon was passed down to me for Christmas I've been using it for IDPA and Open Carry. Infact it's sitting next to me right now.
