New 1911 owner
Bought my first 1911 this week, after much research I finally decided on a Charles Daly 1911 EFS, mainly due to the level of customer service and support that they give to their firearms (only ones I know of who pays the shipping both ways on firearms that need to be serviced), plus the great review it got on another forum. First impressions on the firearm were EXCELLENT, zero noticeable play in slide to frame or in barrel lockup and the trigger was a very crisp pull at around 4.5 lbs (guessing). After breaking it down and cleaning all of the packing oil out of it (took me forever to do this), I took notice at the internal components, no noticeable tooling marks on the barrel or internal components. Unfortunately it will be a little while before I can take it to the range and see how it fires. For a little over $550 out the door I think this is a great bargain for a beginners 1911.

Welcome to the 1911 addiction, you will have fun shooting it, it's not a bad starting 1911 and there are several out there RIA, Taurus, the Springer Mil Specs etc. i have collected and traded 1911's for 35 years and at one point had quite a collection of Colt's both 1911 and Revos, sadly as my age went up and mu sons grew up they seemed to find their way out of my safe and into my sons, I'm not quite sure how it happened but the stipulation was they couldnt sell them but must pass them down to my grandchildren. ( I get to shoot them once in awhile if I can pry them from my sons hands ) Enjoy it and remember when you go back to a XD or similar fire system your shooting will suffer a bit due to the trigger pull difference.

SA will pay up to $50 of the return costs for defective guns and pays everything on the way back.
The most common mistake I see when people ship firearms is to do it themselves. I go to my dealer and they ship for me. Runs about $20. Then I have it returned to the dealer. And I just pick it up.

I had actually set my heart on a Taurus 1911 but after hearing some of the disparaging remarks about safeties popping off I reconsidered and looked around again. One thing that seemed to be common was that Taurus's customer service is not up to par right now. One day I've got my sights set on a Springfield loaded but that's a ways away. Thats good to know about springfield paying part of the cost for shipping, I was unaware of that.

S&W will send a prepaid firearms shipping box and ships it back on their nickel. Lifetime warrenty on their guns too.
With that said, I own SA, S&W and Kimber...they are all great!
