If the extractor is slipping off the rim, replace the extractor. Peace of mind when you need the gun is worth the few dollars its costs. You CAN pull the extractor out and bend it SLIGHTLY to put tension back on it and see if the gun works. I would still replace it but it will let you know if that was your problem

If you bought this gun as a new item let Kimber take care of it. Call them up and request a call tag ; put clear notes of what the gun is or is not doing in the package. Also let them know what types of new ammo you are using when this happens ; maybe include a SPENT casing

They will take care of the issue if you give them the chance
