I wanted to try a .45, I rented a GI 1911. I rented and shot 15 rounds and turned it back in. I don't know if it was the fact that it was a 1911 (everyone raves about them) or if it was just a piece of junk.

Sights were horrible, recoil was awkward, recoil felt spring loaded, trigger was very hard, and it had a failure to feed in those 15 rounds, accuracy seemed bad but I'm more than positive it was the sights with a mix of a completely different trigger than what I am used to.

I wasn't sold on the .45 after those 15 rounds, traded the GI in to rent an HK45. After getting anoter box of 50 and finishing the one I had, walked out front and bought the one they had in the display, the thing was just soo much better, could hit a needle at 50 ft, excellent sights, excellent trigger, amazing recoil characteristics.

The range officer said the 1911 I shot is not indicative of a good quality 1911. Though I find it hard to believe a gun with similar characteristics of the GI would be that nice.

Maybe i'm just not made for the 1911, or maybe the one I shot was a POS, or maybe the GI is a POS, you decide it's just my 2 cents!

Pretty rediculous for what I have heard about how great 1911's are.

Rent before you buy.

who made the 1911 you shot? that may have something to do with it,what kind of ammo did you shoot ball ammo or hollow points, how long has that 1911 been a rental i.e. has it been shot all to hell and abused? the magazine could be a piece o' sh*t,the ftf could've been you limp wristing it,a big gun is intimidating if your used to smaller more compact ones is that the case maybe?

I'm just saying there are alot of possibilities on why that 1911 didn't shoot well especially since it was a rental. that being said the 1911 isn't for everyone.

Love my SA GI. Mine needed an 18.5 Recoil spring to run reliably but it's been a pleasure to shoot, except the sights, but I'm almost use to them now.

The Springfield GI Series is a nice pistol. Like everyone said they are more of a bare bones gun, but they do run great. They have been kind of tough to come by the last year or so, but you will see more out floating around in the 2 larger guns:
GI 5" PW9108LP
GI 4" pw9142LP
The GI 3" Mil Spec frames have not been brought in the country (frames made in Brazil) in large qty's in the last year

Hope this helps ~ they are a nice basic 1911
