Wilson Combat owners, please step inside.....
okay.....
i am absolutely drooling over the Wilson Combat catalog.... there is an all black CQB that is calling my name...i am seriously thinking about pulling out the plastic and ordering one..... how long does it take to get a pistol from Wilsons???? being a custom shop does it take a year or two??? and also about this cocked and locked business...does the Wilson have a plunger style safety on the striker like modern DA autos???? and if you have pics of some wilsons..PLEASE post em'... sorry about the noob 1911 questions, but this will be my first pistol of this type... thanks bruce

Local shop has them on the shelf.
You should also look at Fusion builds. Nice guns from them. And you really need to do more research. The 1911, any 1911 DOESN'T HAVE A STRIKER. They have a hammer. And you carry them locked and cocked. If you are not comfortable with that then don't waste the money. I doubt that Wilson has a plunger style safety. I'm pretty sure they are stock 1911 without all the added safety nonsense. And just some off the shoulder advise. Buy a SA MilSpec or Loaded. Shoot the hell out of it. Then decide what you like and don't like about it and change that. You will be $$$$ ahead. |

None in my local shops. Had to order mine direct which took about 6 weeks to get.
They're pricey, but boy, they are superb and dead-on right out of the box. No tweaking or adjustments necessary, and have all the features I wanted, although I did have a SpeedChute magwell thereafter on my CQB for competition. Nothing but highest recommendation for them, if you've got the $$. Superb guns, superb customer service. And yes, I've shot and handled many other 1911s. Haven't touched any 1911s yet that compares IMHO, with the exception of the other high-end custom guns (LB, NH). When you handle and shoot my CQB side by side with a SA loaded that's gone through the SA customer shop, which I have, there's still a difference

I have 1911s from all the top builders and Wilson is right there with the best.
Here are my two Wilsons, the Classic Super Grade and CQB. The Super Grade is their best 1911, while the CQB is their best selling 1911. ![]() Here's a link to each. http://www.wilsoncombat.com/index_super.htm http://www.wilsoncombat.com/p_cqb.asp |

I am a 1911 Colt addict and if I had more money the Wilson would be in my vault. There are not to many pistols built that are better than Wilsons for the money to my knowledge. Floyd

My carry gun. The craftsmanship is freakin' incredible. Never thought a sub-4" pistol could be so damn accurate, and everything about it is just buttery smooth.
![]() As for your questions, their wait time varies from a couple days to several months, but the CQB's are their most popular model, so they might even have one in stock. Best to just call and ask. Their customer service is awesome, everyone there is enjoyable to talk to. I think everything else has been covered.

Speedracer - how does that Sentinel shoot say compared to a 4" or 5" 1911? I've had my eye on that one for awhile, but was concerned about its shootability for fast followup shots. But then, I've never shot a .45ACP on a frame smaller than Commander.

It usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks to get a Wilson Combat pistol unless they have one on the peg board on a order that fell through.
I would suggest shooting a 1911 or as suggested above buying an entry level one to see if you like it first. Spending $500 and realizing the pisotl isn't for you is better off than putting down $2.5-$3K on one then finding out you dislike it. I had a friend toss me his Kimber and ask me to send it to Wilson Combat for service. I have handled and shot a few Wilson Combats before (CQB and Sentinel) to know what they feel like in terms of handling and fit and finish. The gun was in their hands for approx 4 1/2 months. On the phone they estimated it to be ready in about 6 because of all the work that was requested. I was pleasantly surprised when they called me up and said the gun can be shipped tomorrow at the 4 1/2 month mark. Great customer service from the folks there. Anyway enough about that, take a Kimber Pro Carry and dump approx $1350 worth of parts and labor into it and you get a Wilson Kimber Combat. ![]() ![]() ![]() I am sending in my Kimber Custom TLE II for some work once I gather the money for it. The pistol itself is around $1K and I expect to put another $600 into it. It does not hit the $2.5K mark yet but if you are gonna spend that kind of money on a gun and spend even more than the gun on parts/labor, might as well just start with Wilson Combat but this is the advise I offer people who have shot different guns before and know what to expect in terms of handling and fit/finish (not necessarily n00bs but not gun people either.) Bruce21b,
My Wilson CQB was bought approximately 6 1/2 years ago. It has ridden in a duty holster with me since. The green finish has held up well with being drawn out of a leather holster several thousands of times. I often carry it off duty as well in a Blackhawk Serpa holster. There was nothing I needed to do to it since I got it. It shoots far better than I ever will and has never jammed on me with factory ammo. It has approximately 6000 rounds through it with only the finish showing minor wear on moving parts. It took approximately 6-8 weeks for mine to come in. I am of the opinion that the 1911 is one of the more safer designs and it should serve you well. It is fairly easy to take apart being of the series 70 design. Invest the money and don't look back. You won't be disappointed.

while i would love to have a wilson combat thats becouse i've owned a stock or basic 1911..as someone else suggested to you bruce at the very least go rent a 1911 and shoot 100 rnds through it...Lots of us swear by it but there are those it just doesnt fit or that dont like it.. i've never driven a H3 before but even if i had the money to buy one i'd test drive it first to make sure i liked it..same concept here lest i get stuck with a hunk of metal i won't get what i paid for it back
