Springfield GI or Taurus PT1911

Hey Everyone-Looking to pick up my first 1911.
Need everyones help on deciding if I should go with the GI Model or the Taurus 1911.

Dont really plan on upgrading anything but the grips.
Heard that Taurus has crappy customer service, also heard that SA customer service is much better.

Can you guys give me some advise?

Thanks-

All (newer) SA handguns have a killer lifetime warranty. The PT1911 is very hard to beat pricewise, regardless of the brandname slack you'll hear.. they're both fine guns and 1911's in general have relatively cheap parts to replace regardless. Personally I'd cop the Taurus for the $. I've been actually thinkin' about adding a PT1911 to my collection.

I've been pondering the same purchase. I'm going with the Taurus.

I would definitely go with the G.I. Well, I would actually go with the Mil-Spec for a few dollars more, but that wasn't one of your choices.

I would say go with the Mil-Spec lot's more gun for just a few bucks more, but hey I own a Mil-spec so I'm a little biased. Nice shooting pistol and very accurate

I own two PT1911's, both are accurate, reliable, & hard to beat for the money. Blued ones are selling in the low $500 range. I picked up the SS PT1911 in Jan. for $569........

Springfield has better quality control and FAR better customer service.

If you get a good Taurus, that happened to be made when everyone was feeling good and the tooling was still in good shape, it can be a great gun. If you get one that needs any work, factor getting it done locally into the cost. Taurus service sucks, they will not ever reimburse you or pay shipping, even on a defective brand new gun, and you will send it back at least twice for the original problem.

If you do not plan on upgrading, go with a SA Mil=Spec, as the improvements over the GI are worth a lot more than the price difference!

Look for a loaded model if you can. There are deals out there- and it's all the gun you need. If not, go mil-spec or GI. Yes the Taurus may look better on paper, but springfield has their act down and there's a reason they are used for builds by alot of the bigger names who won't use a taurus.

What's your price limit?

My PT1911 shoots great, never fails and is more accurate then I am. I did have a problem with a bad thumb safety. It was replaced, eventually......Taurus' reputation for poor customer service may be well deserved. It took quite a while to get a replacement part.

I love the pistol and I don't think it can be beat for the price.
