Rock Island Arms?
So I am looking for a cheep 1911 to play with and learn the gun buy doing some home smithing and came across this Rock Island Arms Tactical 1911 clone that looks decent. I have handled a few of the standard models but I havent seen this tactical edition. Do any of you have one or any expereince with this model or the standard. I have done alot of research and they seem to be well liked as a beater 1911 with few problems and like I said I am going to tear into this thing and refinish it play around learing on this b4 i go out and drop some money on a biger name brand firearm. If I break this one or screw it up it wont be a big loose like a Springfield or a Kimber.

I've only heard good things about them. Another starter to try is Charles Daly 1911 EFS, its made by the same company but the finish is better IMO

I have read a lot of post by RIA owners, nothing but good things about the tactical models. Check out m1911.org forum, there's a dedicated forum on RIA and the reps from RIA also post over there.

I don't think that you will read too many negative things about them. I fired one of the basic GI models and except for the small sights, I would buy one. The Tactical model seems to be the one to get.

I saw that exact gun at a show last January for $450. I wished I picked it up but the price at first scared me because it was so low and I never heard of R/I. Why is that price so low? What is "missing" on that gun which allows it to sell for less than $400?
I really want one.......It's almost like i wouldnt give a $it if something broke, it's 1911 lots of available parts out there.

I believe it's made by ArmsCorp from my native country, Philippines. I've read they also make the STI Spartan and the Charles Daly 1911 but I could be wrong.
My dad's got the high-cap local version back home. |

Just purchased one two weeks ago - RIA Tactical Model - it might not be much money but it shoots flawlessly. I am very pleased for an investment of less than $425 including shipping.

They are one of the best buys out there in that price range.
