What's the trick......
Went over to a not so local gun store today to buy a used Delta Elite they had. As I was fingering the DE I noticed a slightly used SA TRP Operator on the wall. Needless to say the DE is still at the gun store.
But now I have a question about the TRP. How do you field strip it? The fit of the guide rod through the bushing precludes any attempt at using a very small piece of wire like the manual says too. And I can find no other way to get the gun broken down. Trying to remove the slide stop against the pressure of the recoil spring is not the easiest thing to do. And getting it back in is even harder. So is there a trick I am missing? ![]()

lock the slide back and look at the base of the guide rod and there should be a hole that goes through the guide rod and thats where you stick the bent paper clip or take down tool

this is being duscussed in the "Guide Rod" thread right now.
you only need 3 or possibly 2 fairly cheap parts. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...053&t=11082005 MidwayUSA - Ed Brown Recoil Spring Plug 1911 Government Blue http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...991&t=11082005

Depending on the model of 1911 you either need a bent paper clip, an Allen wrench, or something else. My Open 1911 uses the paper clip, my Kimber uses strength, and my Limited Para uses a paper clip. If you want to get fancy you might want to buy a Dawson Tool-less Guide rod. Finally got the TRP apart. The "tool" included with the gun was just a hair too long.
But if that whiz bang guide rod will fit my TRP then I'm on it.

If you still want a full length GR then I would get one of the Tungsten rods. They are the best and can make the gun handle much better. Also the Dawson rod is kind of intended for guns with light springs. No matter what i would get a solid GR I have seen several that have launched the screw in parts downrange.
