I believe Wolff sells conversion springs and followers to convert 7 rounders to 8s. Not sure how well they work, but they're cheap and worth a try.

Still, I'd just replace all 7 round factory mags with Wilson 47Ds a little at a time and forget about the stock mags. Most stock 1911 mags are average at best. Even the Colt ones.

I have heard good things about Chip McCormick mags but have never owned one. I know...he is right down the road in Austin, but every dealer near my house sells Wilsons and its cheaper for me to buy OTC than drive to Austin or mail order McCormicks and pay tax and shipping. try them if they're cheaper for you. I know several very experienced shooters that love his stuff.

I have Wilson 47Ds in all 3 of my 1911s and I could not tell you where my old stock Colt and Springer mags are...and I am not sure I really care. LOL

If you have a finiky 1911 or a aluminum framed 1911 then the Wilsons are worth the cost otherwise the Chip McCormics do the same job for half the cost. Its your money. Just my .02

I have a stainless steel 1911 and it's not been finicky even with the factory mags. I've yet to have a failure of any type...really it's just me wanting that extra round in the magazine for carrying and competition.

You do know that the McCormics are 8 or even 10 rounders.

jtkratzer, yes you can put the wilson kits in colt and other 7 round mags and turn them into very nice 8 rounders with the kits and then have the plastic folowers. I too prefer them as they slide better. I also prefer wilson mags and have some cmc's, but I have several colt mags with the wilson kits in them and they work great with the kits in them. I like the wilsons for backup, but I like a flush mount with a wilson kit in it for carry.
