I remember seeing a Norinco 1911 at Walmart in 1993 for $239.99. Go figure.....Passed it by like it had cooties(sp?). Another missed 1911 opportunity.

If the hammer didnt drop it was probably your grip not fully releasing the schwartz safety. this is common with those using a thumbs foreward grip. Or folks with smallish hands.
