Torn between Two Lovers...
I have always loved 1911's...from the moment I saw one. However, I have never quite got around to owning one. I know that is a situation that must, at some time, change. And therein lies my dilemma.
I am deeply in love with two very different 1911's... First, there is the sultry Bobtail... A Stainless Combat Commander was the very first 1911 I saw, and was hooked forever more. When Ed Brown sculpted her already delightful butt into the curvy & sultry Bobtail...OOh my. And with Dan Wesson producing one that can be easily acquired for under a grand...well...I am soooo close to adding her to my very small Hiram. ![]() Then there is the classic original...with all the bells & whisles of course... In this catagory, it is the Springfield Armory Loaded Black Stainless Target PX9152LP. A classic full-size beauty, loaded and look'n gooood. ![]() And thus...my problem... The DW is a wonderful rendition of my "first love". I have not seen/handled one personally, but I have seen many close-up hi-res pics and the fit & finish is just wonderful. Having spent 20+ years designing and building hi-end plastic injection molds, I am very anal when it comes to fit/finish & caliber of craftsmanship. From everything I have seen and heard, the DW would have no problem pleasing me. The Bobtail and 4" barrel would make it a comfortable carry gun. Although it would be a bit heavy compared to my XD45 Compact, it would also be a bit slimmer. But would I really carry her all that much? Or would she be my little range and game queen, in which case the SA Loaded would be a much better pick. But if the fit and finish of the SA Loaded is not at least on par with the DW Bobtail, I know I would never be satisfied. There are no good places for me to go where I live to compare the two, so I will have to decide and order without examining myself...ala mail order bride. So... How is the fit & finish of the SA Loaded guns compared to the DW's? Kimber, STI, RIA, Para, Colt, Sig, S&W, and all the others are out of the running already for various personal reasons...

Like I said on Glocktalk, the DW is the better of the two. I think DW is better than all Springers until you get to the TRP and custom guns.

I love Springfield 1911s and have three, but the Loaded isn't one of the better models. The DW is a nicer 1911.

The Cbob is a lot more gun for the money. It has a lot of quality after market parts and has one mim part on it, the sti thumb safety. The DW's are some of the best fit production guns out there. I just got the .45 cbob (817. at whittakers but I laid it away before the price went up) and I had the 10mm before. You can see I am a bobtail fan, I cut in the bobtail on the sig:
