1911 shopping
Hey i live in mississippi. I have been to the only range i know of in a 3 hour drive. Shot a springfield the only one they had. I am in love. I want to go with the 5 inch barrel and stainless but go as cheap as i can because i am poor. Should be getting on but i am. My only other gun is a XD 9mm. Any ideas on which one to get and anyone in Mississippi know where i can shop.

Also though, look at the EAA Witness and Witness Match or CZ's. The witness Match is a long slide CZ 97B copy but a little smaller. You can get it in 9mm, .38 Super, .40, .45 and 10mm. Best of all, under $500 give or take. The Match is a SA only gun and has a trigger as good as most 1911 and better than many.

for the least amount of money for a Springfield Armory get a mil-spec they're usually the cheapest price on a Springfield 1911 as far as a SS 1911 the cheapest your probobly going to find is the Taurus PT 1911 which is fine because they are very good pistols. theres a SS PT-1911 on gunbroker right now for 559.00 with no bids on it no reserve and only an hour left. s**t now I wish I had the money.

chase2032,
You've just dug yourself into a world of opinion concerning which 1911 to get, but you've done the right thing in deciding to get one. For recommendations mine would be a taurus pt1911, springfield mil-spec if you're a diehard springfield fan for something in the $600 range or if you want to go cheaper I would recommend a rock island armory 1911 (tactical version), these go for around $480 if I'm correct and I've only heard good things about them. I have never shot an STI but I've heard great things about them too. I have shot a taurus 1911 before and it is the one that I am going to get when the money becomes available. Best thing you can do is search this forum and others and do your research as much as possible. Unforunately you're limited in what you can get your hands on at the range, which is the best thing you can do is to shoot them. If you go through galleryofguns.com you can locate your firearm and they will find you a local gun range that you can purchase it from.

Check the used market, You could get a lightly used Loaded for the same price as a Taurus or MilSpec.

NIB Springfield Loadeds can be found for less than $700 if you look hard enough.
I wouldn't give you $350 for a new Taurus

Although I don't know jack about them personally, you might want to check out a Rock Island Armory Tactical model. They seems to get very good reviews from people who have them.

Look at the Springfield loaded. It will have all the bells and whistles you will eventually want and at a good price. I teach CCW classes and the record for Taurus firearms is pretty bad and their service is even worse!
Rock Island is a good cheap entry level pistol but you will be money ahead by starting with the SA Loaded! The S&W is a good 1911 but generally costs a bit more. |
