The SA is 1911 largely built with Brazilian components (frames too) last I heard.

STI's fire control in the Spartan is far better than it's competition also, and at $595 we sell more than a few of them

Save more $$$ and get something that is really going to be worth it. A few years back I helped a friend pick out a PARA 1911.... that was one sweet gun.. I don't remember the model but it was in the $600's and well worth it. I should have bought one too.... oh well. If I were to pick up a 1911 today it would be a Springfield or a PARA. Going cheap will bite you in the ass later.

I spoke too soon.... I will trust your words Scott. Something just erks me about that stamp. When I first saw the price I flipped and just about bought one, but then hesitated.

wikipidia says you have 3 million folks ten years ago so i figure a half million left after katrina thats not a huge state but there simply has to be more than mentioned gun shops with in 3 hours, thats around what 150 miles or more? I can darn near drive all the way east west across michigan from detroit to kalamazoo which is 20 miles from lake michigan in under 2 hours easy i have done it dozens of times.

check this i dont know what town you are in
Mississippi Outdoor Guide - Shooting Sports

there is 29 ranges listed here HUNTINGnavigator.com - Shooting Ranges - Mississippi

heres some dealers USFA Gun Dealers in Mississippi

use this link to get a deal on transfers if you are going to order new over the net and get delivered to local FFL. Prices can range in michigan from 10-50 bucks so look it over and see if there is a local guy who can take delivery for you cheap. That gives you maybe 40 bucks or more towards the gun you want. People poo-poo the Taurus because of MIM parts, then turn around and suggest a Springer or Kimber.....
I have all three, and the Taurus is the best one out of the three. I shoot it more accurately, it has never jammed on me, and has been great right out of the box. I think the vast majority of people that talk bad about them are just repeating what they hear or read. There are some problems for sure, but I don't think it's as extensive as some would have you believe. Besides, they are warranteed forever. Is Kimber?.

I reccomend the Taurus. That's just my opinion.

Lots of MIM on some of their models too, plus others. The bottom line is you probably have to spend upwards of $1500 or more to get machined parts throughout and forged barrel, slide and frame.

thats a good article bard. I bought that issue when it came out a yr or two later I bought a RIA 1911. I had this gun for a yr or so before I went back and re-read that magazine and realized the gun I had was in that article. other than switching magazines to kimber pro mags I never did anything else to it and I never had a problem with jamming or anything else it ate up any rounds I put through it.at around 4000 rnds I reluctantly sold it when I moved and I wish i hadn't,I'm now planning on buying the RIA compact with our "stimulus" checks and I dont have any worrys about performance. A compact 1911 at 339.00 is great and from what I've read so far no performance issues with the compact either.I will upgrade the mags and maybey the sights and have one hell of a gun at a low price that I trust.
