[quote=bountyhunter;990291]I remember that is a known problem with Kimbers. I recall the fix is to remove the grip safety and shave some metal off the leading edges to allow it to engage a little farther and release the internal safety more positively. As I recall, the grip safety can keep that thing from allowing the hammer to fall.]

Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind.

But as I mentioned, I don't think the Schwartz safety was the problem. After some analysis, I think it's the slide not going into full battery.

Update...200 problem-free rounds

I guess I got passed the break-in period. No problems with ball ammo and a fully stacked 8-round Kimber magazine.

I'm really happy now with this purchase. It's got most of the options I want from a 1911. It's very accurate (I'll post a range report from my 2nd trip), and now it's earning my confidence that it's going to be reliable.

After another 200 rounds of ball ammo, which will bring me to 650 rounds, I'll start loading it with Corbon. Hopefully, it will work with that too.

More problems with my Kimber...pls help

I had 2 problems at my last outing with my Gold Match II. I am now at the 800-round mark.

1. Failure to completely chamber a round. This only happened with the original 16# recoil spring. I'm keeping the 18.5# installed.

2. Slide locked open with round(s) in magazine. I replaced my slide lock with an Ed Brown and filed and polished the side that may contact the bullet. I also polished the frame feed ramp. When this happens, the round stays in the magazine. Whenever it does this, I manually "slingshot" the slide and the gun works. I noticed that there are scratches on at the lower barrel throat and frame feed ramp. I think it's from the bullet's nose. What can this be?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The Gold Match has a extremely tight chamber and can be finiky especially with LSWC handloads. As far as the gun locking open prematurely try a differant magazine to see if that helps.
