Just put some ammo through it to get it broken in. What HPs are not feeding well? My 1911 seems to handle 200 and 230 gr Gold Dots just fine.

My Kimber had instructions to break in using 500 rounds of 230grn FMJ ammo.

I recommend reading your owners manual to see if there are instructions for a break in procedure and if so follow them according. Often times this will eliminate any issues with feeding.

Need more info..please

We would really need more of a description to help you out.

Are the rounds jamming on the feedramp going into the chamber?

Upon ejection?

Stovepiping?

Double-feeds?

You see, all of these types of jams have different remedys. Some require a spring swap, some require tweaking of the extractor to get a little more tension out of it, some might mean a different magazine, some mean you need to polish the feedramp and chamber.

Before you go swapping parts, buying new mags or tensioning the extractor...describe the "jams" you're getting and we can narrow it down.

Were you using stock magazines? What kind of hollowpoints? Does all fmj ammo work 100% in the gun?

It could also be the type of ammo. Two of my 1911s can NOT run any alloy cased ammo at all. The other handles it with total reliablity. Dito for certain hollowpoints. Some give me tons of jams while other brands are 100% reliable.

Hard to diagnose without more info...sorry.

FWIW, GI's and Mil-Specs are probably gonna choke on HP ammo no matter how you tune it.

Take a look at their "feedramps" compared to others... They were designed only to run FMJ/ball ammo. Many can and will run HP, but not always with outstanding consistency

Hmmm...

I bought a GI Springer 6 years go and to this day, it has fed 4 different hollowpoints and every fmj it was given with NO hiccups.

Hydra-Shoks, XTPs, Silvertips and Cor Bon HPs all went through the GI with ease.

The GI and Mil-Spec might look basic on the outside, but look at their feedramps and you'll see they're definately set up to feed HPs.

Chances are you have a lazy extractor, need a more robust recoil spring or possibly a Wilson 47D magazine...but without more info...its just a guess. It might also be ammo related.

Were the GIs and Mil-Specs set up for hollowpoints? Absolutely!
