SA Ultracompact V10

Hello, joined today.

I have an XD but I see this page is dedicated to the 1911. I have a couple of those and one of which is the Springfield Ultracompact V10. Is there anyone else on board with one? I am not happy with the porting and would just as soon sell the pistol or replace the barrel with a non ported one. Do I have to send it back to Springfield to do this?

I think if you contact Springfield they can sell you a replacement barrel.

Why are you not happy with the porting?

And does your firearm also have the ported slide? I have seen them with a ported barrel and solid slide.

I had one and no amount of tinkering could ever get it to be reliable. Some feel otherwise, but IMHO a 1911 much shorter than commander length is hard to make reliable. To answer your question, if you want to swap barrels you should have a good gunsmith fit the new one. You might get lucky dropping one in but there is also a fair chance you might get in a world of hurt. It doesn't have to be Springfield Armory necessarily but they would do a nice job.

I would sell it and go with something with a little longer bbl.

Thanks for the reponses and yes the slide is ported too. I'd be afraid of the build-up in there is it wasn't. After the first few rounds the white dot on the front sight is blacked out.

I dislike the porting because it deafening to use without ear plugs, like ice picks in the ears deafening. Plus it leaves the gun dirty. I really wouldn't want to carry it and have to use it on close quarters and get the vented gases in my own face.

I bought this gun a few years ago from a kid that needed the money quickly. I installed a new recoil spring and a new extractor, I got lucky because it runs well now. Before that it stovepiped and failed to go into battery at least once per mag. It runs now but I'd sell it, even at a loss. I like my XD40sc and my 5" Kimber much better.

You did find this out by accident right.? (I hope) Not to be the safety nazi but there isn't really any unsuppressed center fire pistol that is safe to shoot without hearing protection. I'm not trying to give you a ration of crap, but I've lost a lot of my hearing from shooting without plugs when I was young and knew everything. So learn from the fat old deaf guy and wear some plugs at the range.

Your easiest way to a happier gun would be to sell it and purchase something that would be suited more for your purposes.

I have one. I like it, and it runs fine. The porting/Noise issue dosn't bother me at all...
-But then again, I don't carry (or shoot without ear plugs).

Yeah I usually wear muffs or ear plugs but you know I HAD to try it..twice. That's it, two shots I guess I didn't believe it the first time. I have fired other pistols in the past with no muffs but never continously. I just never had a ported pistol before this one and this was a whole new experience. Hooooly cow. I warned a buddy of mine about it but he didn't believe me until he squeezed the trigger. Then he flipped the safety on, laid the gun down and picked up the muffs I offered him in the first place. I don't know how old it really is but I've had this V10 for over 3 years and I never fire it without ear protection now.

I love 1911s I like the looks and it fits great in my hand with Hogue grips but right now it's a range gun not my carry piece.

Thanks,
Mark
