Can you modify a no dovetail front?
Is it possible... and wise to dovetail a frame that has fixed front sight? I really like the glo sights and am thinking about it? Whats the opinions on this move? Its a 1911 loaded but has the fixed sight. Thanks, Buzz

From Trijicon's website:
" » 09. The front sight of my Beretta is part of the slide. Can you install Trijicon night sights on my weapon? Yes, our recommended specialty shop, Tooltech Gunsight, can install Trijicon night sights onto the Beretta 92 and 96 models with integral front sights. For more information on this installation, please contact Tooltech. Tooltech Gunsight will be able to quote prices, options and turnaround time. Visit Tooltech's website for contact information." I dont' know if they could do it on a 1911 (I don't see why not) but they do it on Beretta 92's all of the time. |

On a 1911 just remove the old staked on front mill the a dovetail and touchup the bare metal push in a front sight and go on. |

Dovetail machining is not that easy
Is it? My understanding is dovetail machining that small is not all that common or easy. Glad to hear scott does it... I think Ill send it there. NOW... Second question.. will this damage the "original condition" or is IT something that can be ordered anyway, and not necessarily changing any pre set condition of originality? Just a thought? It a custom ordered Loaded... special order with checkering and sights and a few other little ditties! Buzz

If you are talking about cutting in a dovetail on a slide that has a staked in front sight it's extremely common, there are lots of places that do it. It is also wise as it is a much better setup than a staked in sight. People are all of the time having a dovetail cut in the front and a novak, heinie, or bomar cut in the rear. Pretty much any gunsmith does it.
Just make sure you cut it in the slide and not the frame. Quote:
