Quite disappointed
Been waiting for the toy store to get some Ultra Compact models in. Called yesterday and they had just gotten three of them.
So I headed on down. Clerk got the first one out of the counter and racked the slide. Slide did not go back into battery. So he racked it again. Slide further out of battery. Now he was not riding it back. Just pulling back and letting go. So we decided that that particular pistol might have a problem. He went back and got the other two. Neither of them survived more than 5 cycles of the slide. One locked up with the slide in battery. Pretty bad QC from SA if you ask me. But I did compare the size of the UC with a Glock 36. The Glock is a bit thicker but other than that the same size or smaller. Also has the same magazine capacity. And I could get the Glock with night sights about $250 cheaper. |

i had wanted to get a SA compact. i wanted an officers size 1911 to carry off duty. i couldnt find one.
i took the risk and bought a Rock Island Armory compact. same size as an officers, has the bull barrel, beavertail and commander style hammer. i changed the smooth grips for a pair of blk/silver kimber wood grips. i love the rock, its been great. what even better is i ordered it for 340. brand new in the box and i had it in two days! hate to hear the SA compacts had an issue, the glock might be the better choice. i have to say i was impressed with my rock though, very smooth and a great trigger pull. i carry it every where off duty, its a good basic 1911 officers size that i dont have to worry about getting scratched up. hope you find something you like russel SDMF

from what i have read 1911 compacts seem to have more problems then the full size. if i were to get a 1911 i wouldnt get any smaller then a 4"
i would consider the emp since that pistol was redesigned for that size and cal. |

One bad one maybe, but three? Did you check the breech to make sure that the chamber flag wasn't stuffed in there?

Didn't happen to leave empty mags in the guns, did he?

Some Officer sized guns do have timing problems, that's nothing new. I'd be interested in knowing if those guns were cleaned or lubed. I'd imagine not, since it was at a gun store.
Honestly, if you want a 1911 for carry, go with a CCO type gun. The grip frame is the hardest part to hide, so, with the CCO style, you get the best of both worlds, short grip, 4" upper. No timing issues, better sight radius, longer barrel length.

NO chamber flags. Mags in or mags out made no difference.
I looked at the G30. Did not like the grips. I have a feeling it was a combo of over tight tolerances and no lube. And that can be really hard on stainless steel guns. You could feel them getting tighter and tighter while working the slides. |
