I just got one of these about a 2 months ago. 100% reliable so far including HP's. I didn't have good luck with the Kimbers I tried, Pro Covert, Ultra Covert or the Pro CDP.

im happy with my rock island. the 3 1/2 inch bull barrel is very accurate.

its been perfect so far. i was leary about a small 1911. i had bought a used defender years ago and it took me some time to get it running right. i never could fully trust the gun, but i still loved it.. i wanted another defender, because i have seen others that were fine out of the box. i just couldnt find one in my preice range anymore.. lol..

if you can find a small 1911 that works, they are great for carrying. its bad that sometimes its hit or miss finding one..

Colt haters will probably disagree with me, but the most dependable small 1911's are the colt defender and new agent. If you hit the colt forums you will find out these are very dependable, it's even suprising. I'm not a colt devotee, I do own one colt, but these are very dependable little guns. I do see russel had one with problems and I don't doubt him at all, anything can happen, but overall they are probably the most dependable out of the box small gun. Colt's dimpled barrel went a long way toward out of the box dependablility.

The officers model can also be very dependable, but there were some problems with it compared to the defender/new agent. They can be made dependable pretty easily.

Here is my only "short" 1911 and colt at this time, have owned a prior lw oacp and other colts (among a number of brands). This thread shows what I am doing to it. Great carry gun and I still have a few things to do:
