Just brought home a PT 1911

Sorry for the picture quality (phone). Because it's new to the family this one came to work with me today. So far I like it very much. Oh, and don't drool over my office carpet- I know you all wish you had the burgundy shag.

Reports of this machine have been good.

How about reporting your experience with
yours when you take it for a ride at the
range?

Mine is VERY accurate and has been 100% reliable after the first two rounds nosedived out of the mag due to a tight mag. About 500 rounds downrange so far.

Good gun for me so far!

I have 3 1911s and the taurus has the best feel and fit of any of them. I love it. With a skeleton hammer and S&A magwell, it looks a lot better.

Close to a 1000 rounds out of mine and could not be happier. Since I got my Springfield I don't shoot it as much, but it's not going anywhere. I actually plan on picking up a railed version soon.

p1911

Mine has been totally reliable through about 800 rounds. Extremely accurate and feeds semiwadcutters as good as round ball.
Using reloads with Precision bullets.
Cheers

Wow that's impressive! You're not the first person I've heard say that, either. I own a very nice custom SA 1911, which started out as a "loaded" model, but now with mods is probably worth around 2K. But I'd also like to have a nice gun that I can take out and use/abuse, without worrying about it. And as a lefty, I need an ambi safety built-in. Apart from Taurus, it seems like most reputable models with ambi safeties tend to start around $800! So I'm looking at the Taurus. The one thing that gives me pause is, I had a VERY bad experience with one of their 24/7 pistols about a year ago, and then found I intensely disliked their customer service as well. This makes me worry about dealing with them, even if they DO make a good 1911, because I know that sooner or later, I might have to send it in.

So tell me this: WHY do you like it better than your other ones? And also, what do you think about the idea of customizing your Taurus, using higher quality parts from places like Wilson or Cylinder & Slide?

And I agree about the Taurus CS reputation. I often hear of 4 month turn around times or more, for realtively standard repairs.

For that reason I worry about needing warranty work on my PT145 but when it came to the PT1911 the logic I used to plunk down the $599 (with factory night sights) was the fact that it's a standard 1911 design meaning that at least I have millions of gunsmithing choices both locally and via snail mail. I figured that if I have to pay to ship my PT1911 to Taurus at least I can contemplate the overall costs involved in the return cost to Taurus and the time without the gun versus just buying a higher quality 1911 replacement part that may need repaired or replaced and having it done by a local smith or even myself. Call it sort of like improving the gun by attrition or something like that. The only real failures I've read about (apart from feeding or extraction stuff) is the safety lever breaking and I belive that is one of the MIM parts. As abundant as 1911 safeties are and those that can install them I'd probably just opt to put the shipping money into a higher quality safety. Obviously this logic isn't 100% but I'll bet that most warranty issues will be realtively minor in nature making this logic an option.
