Building a 1911
I was wondering if anyone has built there own pistol ? I saw www.brownells.com and they sell every part for it . I want one so bad but would like to build it also if possible . Any help would be great to give me ideas . Thanks

It is MUCH cheaper and easier to buy one built, but that being said, yes they have everything you need if you have a lot of extra time and money.
You would need a FFL to transfer you the frame. |

I thought about this once as well. I just don't think I have the mechanical know-how to do that.

There is a class offered through forum.1911forum.com where you buy the package and go through the course and build your own. Seems interesting.

The class on 1911forum is being offered by Larry Vickers. Although expensive, it's a worthwhile investment and you will have built your own pistol under his watchful eye.

Yeah, I'd love to do that someday, but it's something like $6000 or so for the course and (IIRC) parts, travel expenses, food and lodging, etc.
Of course you'd end up with a heck of a pistol, and an amazing amount of knowledge. But you can also buy a whole lot of 1911 for a lot less than half that. Would be fun though. Peace, D.
