STI give EMP a run for its money

I found this new pretty on the STI website. Looks like the EMP will get a run for its money. Heavy price tag but Im going to hold off on my next purchase until I can hold one of these in my hands.

Rogue
With the Rogue, STI International delivers a compact 1911 pistol with an overall length of only 6˝“. This is our lightest pistol yet, weighing about 21 oz.

The Rogue’s “slenderized” classic slide has traditional styling and rear cocking serrations, STI oversized ejection port, and integral sights. The Rogue is built on a forged aluminum STI “LS” sized frame with a stippled front strap. The grip includes a flat checkered polymer mainspring housing configured to provide excellent retention. The controls are an STI singled sided blued thumb safety and a “bobbed” STI high rise blued knuckle relief beavertail grip safety. The barrel is a 3.0” fully supported STI ramped modified cone barrel. The Rogue comes standard with an STI RecoilMaster guide rod system, LS style hammer, and patented STI International trigger system.

The Rogue is standard in 9mm.

It is beautiful and (like all STI's) I am sure it is well designed and built.

That said, short 1911's are prone to cycling problems and the shorty STI 1911's are the only one I have seen negative performance comments on.

I'm not really sure the 1911 design is fully reliable in the short barrel sizes.

The problem is that the STI guns are true (.45ACP) 1911s chambered in 9mm or .40S&W. The EMP was redesigned from the ground up as a 9mm (and now .40S&W). There are fundemental differences in the designs and, it would seem that reliability follows the design.

.... isn't that an oxymoron? TRUE 1911's are chambered in nothing but TRUE .45ACP.

A true 1911 was chambered in the .38 auto.

Is that rear sight milled into the slide?

Yess the rear sight appears to be integral with the slide. This is not just a scaled down 1911, its a 1911 frame engineered for the 9mm, complete with a ramped barrel. I considered the LS 9 or 40 but I sort of like the looks of this dude. One thing I can say about STI is that they always took care of me when i had a need.

I think people forgot about the .38 super chambering in the 1911. It was supposed to help with penetration during the days of the roaring 20's when there was a need to penetrate car bodies. Alot of people only remember the 1911 for its duty in WWII.

Heres a little info i just found...
[edit] Design

The .38 Super is dimensionally identical to the older .38 ACP but is loaded to higher pressures. It was intended that the cartridge would headspace on the semi-rim, however all new .38 Super pistols headspace on the case mouth as with other cartridges in this class. Because the semi-rimmed case can cause some feeding trouble in magazines, especially double stack magazines, rimless variants of .38 Super like .38 Supercomp, .38 Super Lapua and .38 TJ (.38 Todd Jarrett) have been developed.
In 1974 the industry added the +P headstamp to the .38 Super to further distinguish it from the lower pressure .38 ACP. Most current ammunition manufacturers label ammunition for the Super as .38 Super +P.
The cartridge was designed for use in the M1911 pistol and was capable of penetrating the body armor and automobile bodies of the time.[3]
