If it is built like a true 1911 the firing pin is removed by pressing the firing pin in (while unloaded) and sliding the plate up out of the slide.

Hello all...actually Badshot I've heard that these things are junk and that the best thing to do with one is to sell it to a buddy for a buck fitty!

Just an inside joke, it's a very nice new toy, gotta change those grips though. Looking foward to getting afield to try it out soon.

The first thing I would do is replace the hammer with a non-locking one.

Funny I should find this thread...

I was sitting at my table at the gun show today when someone walked by with a PT1911. I asked to look at it, and I was pretty impressed with the fit and function. I asked him to make me a price for the gun, which he said had only about 100 rounds fired through it. The price was very good, so I bought it. (My buddy at the next table was waiting to look at it, and he's now kinda teed off at me.)

Anyway, I changed out the grips with wraparound Hogues, but only after taking it out and firing a mag of ball ammo through it. No matter how nice the fine checkering on the front strap is, those Taurus grips had to GO.

Now I have a 1911 virtually ready for carry duty after I've put a few hundred rounds through it, and at a price that I couldn't turn down. I'm happy, but yes, I'm going to find another hammer.

What's the big deal about the hammer.. I don't use the lock, so it's a moot feature.. does it some how lesson the function of the hammer? The only thing that has me bugged in the reading I've done (and mind you I think this is a bit of bigotry) is the MIM parts. Particularly the extractor. While I understand there is a bit less strength, I wonder if it's a show stopper for a non-competition, non-carry pistol.

What I'm really wondering is if this is going to take the place of my SIG P220 as my absolute go-to gun.. time will tell on that though, cause I know it's personal preference and I love my SIG. Until now it's as close to a 1911 as I've gotten.

So Leland, what did you pay for that PT1911? Railed or no?

Not railed...

$400 OTD.

I think that's good, considering that my other choice of the day was a used Kimber for $600. I think I made out all right.

As for the hammer, I simply don't like looking at the screw, and I'd also like something a little bigger. It's not something I'm going to go out of my way to change, but should I find a replacement hammer for a good price, I'm going to pick it up and put it in.

Shoot the snot out of it before making a judgement about the MIM parts, Some have QC issues with their MIM, Para Ord being my worse example but both of my Springers and both Kimbers have MIM parts and I haven't experienced any problems with either through many thousands of rounds. I am however in the process of de MIMing my Springer Loaded as it is probably going to replace the Kimber CDP as my main carry gun.No Schwartz safety untill I can find a series 1 Kimber CDP pro or Lightweight Operator.
