Grip color opinions?

I love the look of Cocobolo and all the other classic exotic woods, but I've always been one of those to try other options. What do you guys think of this color? You don't see light woods used too often... This Wed I'm supposed to be getting a wood checkering set from Brownell's. I figure this would be a good place to start practicing!

Do you think it would look funny if I inlaid a verticle light colored wood stripe down the center of a dark wood grip? I'm just trying to think of different ideas. Like a strip of light oak down the center of a Red Cherry grip?

there is also TONS of actual color stain options like reds and blues. but if you do use the color stains go over top of it with a dark regular wood stain and it really brings out the grain (the color ones dont bring it out like the walnut type stains)

I didn't even think of that! I suppose they would sort of be like those colorful aftermarket 10/22 stocks that I see at gun shows? Dang, now thats another thing I'm adding on my stuff to do list.

Sounds kinda skunk-like to me, but I'm old-fashioned. I'd advise doing a rough-out on a similar sized piece of scrap so you can see if you are going to like it before you do it to the actual grip panels.

Maybe something like this:

I don't know that I would do one or two lines. The grips take only a couple of hours to cut anyway. Wood working is my other more cheaper hobby so I don't mind taking the time just making a whole bunch of grips and combining both of my hobbies into one kickass good time

Looks good so far Mikey! I'm currently working on some grips as well. I'm a woodworker by trade, sounds like we have more than one thing in common.

The oak looks really good IMO, I'm curious to see the checkering process and how it comes out!

Nice stick, did you make that yourself?

Cheers! M2
