Headed out to feed the addiction.....

Well I'm going to go and get a SA 1911 today if I can find what I want. I'm looking for a nice Champion series. Hopefully a lightweight of some kind.

It looks pretty much like every other 5" loaded Combat...but here you go.

Now the question I have is that there was a coupon in the box and I can get mags for $9 each from Springfield. Are the mags worth that? Or are there other mags I should be buying? It's been a long time since I had a 1911.

I was going to buy a LW Champion but the store did not have one and I did not have a full size handgun at all. So the Loaded Combat was a great, in my mind, choice. The trigger is awesome. The only real change will be the grips and perhaps an extended slide stop.

thats the same exact gun i have.....i love it and so will you.

as far as mags go, it depends on its purpose. i have 6 chip mccormick power mags (about 20-25 bucks each) that i use for matches and for carry. you can pick up standerd g.i. mags at gunshows for 7-9 bucks. depending on the shipping id say go for it. i put the mccormick shooting star base pads on the bottoms of both my factory mags, mainly because i also put an S&A magwell on the gun.

You can start a separate and heated discussion with that question. Mags can and do malfunction, which is not something you want at a meet or in a self-defense situation.

$9 is a good price and Springfield mags are ok from my experience. My Kimber mag (Which I bought with the gun) stopped locking the slide back.

When I buy a new 1911 mag, I get the Chip McCormick Power Mag 8-rounder. They're $22 but very dependable. A lot of folks like the Wilson Combat #47D Mags which are considerably more expensive but happen to be on sale at MidwayUSA right now for $23.49. They have nylon followers.

Here are my two lightweight Champions. I LOVE 'em! The aluminum frame is actually lighter than my XD frame.

No offense to anyone but, I don't buy into all that magzine hype. All I've ever had were stock Springfield mags and I've yet to have an issue that was caused by the mag. I've got about a dozen of the $9 mags and they've performed flawlessly.

thats cool, this is my first 1911 so i just took into account all i read about mags and bought the mccormick mags.

i have a few stock mags that have ran flawless so far. im just concerned shooting IPSC and IDPA that dropping them on the ground will lead to issues, i did put the shooting star base pads on them though.

Took the new 1911 to the range today. Thing shoots like a dream. My buddy came along with me. And he has very little experience with firearms. So I took 9 handguns along for him to shoot. He shot the 1911 the best. He did end up buying my Glock 23. But next gun he buys will be a Springfield 1911. After the range we headed to the local crack house (gun shop) so he could look at the 1911 models. While he was doing that I wandered over to the used gun case. And after drooling over a 10" Browning Buckmark Target and a HK USP 45 I noticed they had a Colt Delta Elite sitting there. It sure looked lonely. I was counting my cash and coming up way short. My buddy comes over and tells me he will pay me cash for the Glock right now. That sealed the deal.

The Colt DE found a new home. So we headed back to the range to shoot the DE. Sure shoots nice. Has a bit more flip and kick than the 45 ACP. But it shoots quite well. And it already had been upgraded with the guide rod, stronger single spring and recoil buffer. In fact my buddy had a hard time racking the slide.

So now I need to find mags for it. I'g guessing that since Colt only ever built one 10mm 1911 that these mags will work.

BTW. Took the new XD9 Tactical to the range also. Shoots like a damn dream. May have to get a XD45 Tactical next.
