Any 1911 with a barrel of less than 4" can be tempermental, the short barrel increases the feed angle and the lighter slide leads to increased slide velocity so magazine choices become more important. If you get one that works well good for you, if not Springfield will fix it under warantee.

I know alota ppl on here like the GI model,I was hopeing to also.My buddy bought the Government model and I bought the compact (3") model.Within the 2nd mag my slide stop broke,it looked like it was made from Pot Metal I called SA they sent me another one,the slide stop worked well after that.My friends Government model's back sites flew off and was never found. He got replacements from SA,we both sold the guns.I like the GI but kinda "skeered" of them for carrying purposes myself.Like always, just my 2 cents.......

I had one.It took awhile to get it to run right. It was heavy and wasn't the most accurate for me.I think there are better options.

I have the 1911 A1 laoded Springfield Micro-Compact. had some issues with it in the beginning, but as long as its not limp wristed now, it will do fine, I dont have any problem, and I carry it often and feel safe with it.

I have a 4" GI that I carry and other than needing the extractor tuned to not throw the casings in my face it's a good gun.

Had one. Stovepiped all the time, and I wasn't limp-wristing at all. Traded it for a Kimber, basically the same thing, and had even more problems.
I felt that I couldn't trust either one, so I got rid of them and got an XD-45c, wich gives me 0 grief. That's my experience. Good luck. |

I have an SA GI model and never had any feed/eject problems with it. It shoots anything I put into it.
I also have an XD45C. If the zombies were attacking and I had to give one of them up, I don't know which gun I would keep. The smaller 1911s are less dependable, though, unless you do some work on them.
