!911 Mags?

I hear quite a bit about this mag and that mag, I was wanting to pick up some extra mags for the 1911 and wanted to hear which ones to get and which 1's to stay away from.... I guess I can order more from Kimber but thought there might be even better ones out there. Thoughts?? Thanks JOE>

Wilson 47D mags are easily the best mags on the market. Chip McCormick mags are second. Stay away from Novak mags, they will crack.

With a aluminum framed Kimber do not use mags with a split follower or it will damage the feedramp area, this includes the factory Kimber mags. Tripp Cobra mags, Wilsons or metalforms are my favorites with a aluminum frame. Steel framed guns are a differant story and just about anything short of the cheap chineese copies work great. Upgrade kits are available though so dont just throw away the factory mags.

Wilson 47Ds...there all you'll need.

I have a few of these mags that are going on 8-10 years of age and still function perfectly.

Pro-Mags, Mec Gars and others are too iffy...why bother? I have two Wolff mags that work well but I had to return one because the feed lips were so off spec it was scary. I will always stick with Wilson 47Ds...they're the best in the biz, no doubt.

Sure, they're more expensive, but you can buy the 14-16 dollar mags now ...cuss them and end up buying the 25 dollar Wilsons later on so how about skipping that middle step?

Again the expensive mags are only needed in aluminum framed guns to protect the feed ramp. I have seen just about all mfg's have a bad product but the split follower mags have always been great in my steel framed 1911's and at $9-$10 the McCormics are hard to beat, I have a bunch of them. My CDP is fond of the Tripp cobra mags.

IMO, stay away from SA factory mags. It's not that they don't work, it's just that there are better mags that cost the same.

I use McCormick's Shooting Star mags. I can find them at gunshows and on sale for less than $10 often.

With factory mags, when you say upgrades are available, do you mean simply swapping out the followers?

I did notice when I got my 1911 that my XD mags felt like they were smoother to load. Maybe it's the polymer/plastic follower...

So let me get this right... I need to use a different mag than what came in it b/c it has an allum. frame??? I don't get it. Why would the 1's that came w/ it harm it? This is news to me, I thought they would at least be good to use. Any ways the Wilson ones r good then, and where do I get these. Wilson web site any special type of Wilson that I need for ALlum frame. Thanks JOE>

I use metal followers in my carry mags and I have an allow framed gun and have not had any issues. I have however heard time and time again that its a no no. I guess if I shot it more, I might head the warning. For my target/match gun, I use Wilson 47D mags. You can find them lots of places online if you do a search.

The McCormick Power Mags are supposed to be the new "gold standard" for 1911 mags. I have those and the Wilson Combat mags. Never had any isssues with either.
