I wouldn't have told the old lady that she'd been had, personally. It's not in good taste to make her feel guilty and cry as you said, especially after the death of your grandfather and how she thought she was doing you a favor because you might have wanted the money. I'm not making a judgment, but someone reading that post can get the impression that you care more about the gun than the death of your grandfather and helping your grandmother to deal with her grief. Spilled milk, though...

I hope you somehow get the gun back.

What a dirtbag. Definitely pay him a visit. I would pursue this one to the end of the earth. It won't take much. Dirtbags give up when they know they are in trouble.

while yes it sucks, there is always the bit in the back of my mind about let the buyer beware. In this case she had avenues she could have used... a phone call to a local gun shop comes to mind... to verify. It's a done deal. You can try R Dub's method, which I like, but realize that if you do so, you do open yourself to libel/defamation of character. Just stating it so you go into it with eyes open.

Holy crap...what a scam artist that guy is! That Commander is worth anywhere between 600-900 dollars.

Yes, I'd confront the guy. Chances are, he knew exactly what he was doing and shame on him. Call him out on it - thats awful to take advantage of an elderly person like that.

I'd start a web page devoted to paying homage to his deeds..... send him the URL and ask him if he thinks $200 is worth being a nationally known scoundrel.

My family had a similar experience with Grandpa's 1938 Luger, the gun was perfect with Holster, extra Mag, Loading tool, cleaning rod and Nazi pistol belt. It was liberated from a Officer in Holland by my great uncle who died in a car accident in 1951. A family "friend" convinced my Grandma that it wasnt worth much and gave her the princly sum of $100 for it. When my father went to get it back he was escorted off his property by the County Sheriff and told if he returned he would be prosecuted for tresspassing. Bad deal I really hope yours works out better.

I see what you are saying but also remember this was a supposed friend that she trusted. Its a tricky situation but I think you'd have to say something so it didn't happen to her again with the same a**hole.

I think sometimes with elderly people, some don't think to check things out or know where to do it. Especially with someone they trusted as a friend, not knowing they are instead a fiend

My Grandmother being in her late 80s, not knowing anything about firearms and thinking a family friend wouldn't screw her over sold this scum bag the gun. She thought she was doing me a favor and i could use the cash because this dirt bag said he was paying premium for the gun.

Needless to say she was in tears when i told her what the gun was really worth. That dirt bag took advantage of an old woman who just lost her husband and he knows it. Id like to ring this bastards neck but its not worth me going to jail over.

P.S. I misspelled commander in the title have no clue how to fix it (Done)

Hand him $200 and forcibly take the gun back.

There's a special place in hell for people that prey on the elderly and the young.

+2. You can also contact your local TV "Scoop Jackson" and let him know you have an expose' about a guy who preys on 80 year old widows.
