Single Stack for CCW?

I fully understand that carrying a spare magazine ought to be standard practice while carrying a concealed firearm. I carry one myself.

I'm considering converting to a 1911 for CCW since the round is larger and the pistol itself is slimmer (theoretically making it easier to conceal).

The question is, how many spare mags are enough? Those who carry their 1911, how many spares do you carry?

Right now I carry 25 rounds daily (12+1 in the pistol and a spare 12 rd. mag). I'm thinking that I'd like to match this if I convert to a 1911, but that makes it a little more difficult to conceal because I'll need 3 spare 7 rd. mags (or 2 spare 8 rd. mags) to make up the capacity difference.

Thoughts?

When I carry my 1911, I have 7+1 in the gun and 7 in a spare mag...seems like 15 rounds ought to do it for me! (I hope, anyway!)
Come to think of it, that is what I am armed with when I carry my Keltec P32...which is most of the time!

One spare for my carry 1911s. I mean, I seriously doubt you'll be in a siege situation requiring that many as civilian situations are fast and furious. I even doubt you'll have time to perform a reload. But I still always carry a spare mag unless I'm biking.

MAny single stacks I see tend to be almost the same thickness when you factor in the grips. It just depends.

I carry my P99c - 10 + 1. SOMETIMES I carry a fullsize spare mag. But, that's something I just started to do.

I carry 7+1 in my 1911 and then another 7 rounder in the pocket sometimes, but not always. When i carry my wheel gun or my wifes Kel-Tec, i always carry a reload.

I don't carry extra mags. If I end up in a situation, I'll shoot my way to the exit door. I don't plan on standing my ground and shooting anything that moves.

I carry a spare mag no matter what I carry. I think I do it more for the extra weight to help balance the weight of the gun...

I carry a 1911 when weather permits, and Wilson Black Stainless 47-series mags. That means I have 8+1 and another 8 in the spare. 17 rounds of 45 should get me out of most situations.

I've actually been wishing for the fall quite a bit this week. I'm ready for 70-degree weather when I can slip on a light jacket and start carrying the 45 again.

You also have to think about magazine failures. What happens if you have to clear a malf. and you need to remove the magazine and fumble it?

Granted you probabaly won't need it but I would rather have to much ammo than not enough. I've only heard folks complain they didn't have enough never "I had way to much ammo for that ordeal".

Only with a 1911. I mean really, have you had a lot of those? Are death squads after you? There's a fine line between paranoia and preparation.
