I disagree, if they point a gun at me and demand something from me, they have threatened my life and I will respond accordingly. You have the sheep mind set, I'll do what they want and hopefully they will go away happy. Criminals will rob you and then shoot you dead anyways. If you are in such a bad area then you should know this.
Maybe a woman being raped should just lay there and let him get it over with, that way he wont beat her as he does it...

I carry a 1911 and tend to carry my wallet in one back pocket and a double mag pouch in the other or somewhere on my person.

Since my higher capacity pistol (XD9)has other duties (temporarily is house gun for wife) I just feel better knowing that I have 25 rounds on me. Even though like others say I might not have time to reload ...I feel better knowing that if I do need to reload I can. Plus I also find that the weight helps stabilize my pants since a 1911 is so heavy I keep the mag pouch on the other side.

Eventually I plan to pick up something else that has a high capacity but for now I do what I gotta do with what I have.

It all boils done to doing what makes you comfortable. Some people carry revolvers and no extra ammo. A guy I know actually carries 2 pistols ...well he doesn't actually carry 2 pistols but he keeps one on his person and has a second one stashed inside his SUV. Thats a little too paranoid to me but thats what makes him comfortable.

When I carry concealed on my person (I always carry in the truck - but not always on my person)...yes...I carry one spare loaded mag in my pocket most of the time no matter what pistol I carry.

I also leave one 50rd box of 9mm, 40SW and 45ACP in the console in my truck at all times....you never know.

All within reason, ichy. I never said there weren't cases where self defense is a good idea.

Rape was not on my mind when I made that statement, for one. When was the last time you or I had to worry about being raped?

Thumbs up

OK, I found the PA Castle Doctrine amendment (House Bill 2231, apparently happened in 2005), but it clearly says:

Code:
(2) The use of deadly force is not justifiable under
this section unless the actor believes that such force is
necessary to protect himself against death, serious bodily
injury, kidnapping or sexual intercourse compelled by force
or threat; nor is it justifiable if[:
          (i) the actor, with the intent of causing death or
serious bodily injury, provoked the use of force against
himself in the same encounter.[; or
(ii) the actor knows that he can avoid the necessity
of using such force with complete safety by retreating or
by surrendering possession of a thing to a person
asserting a claim of right thereto or by complying with a
demand that he abstain from any action which he has no
                    duty to take [...]
So I'm still right about that.

The question is, how many spare mags are enough?
Well... about 99.99% of all personal threat firearm encounters occur at ranges less than seven yards.... if you need more than two or three rounds to terminate the threat, he will either:

1) Have already shot you by then if he is armed

2) Have his hand wrapped around the barrel of your gun and be using the leverage to break your wrist

One mag will probably be more than enough. carry another if it gives peace of mind.
