Thinking of Competing

I was told that the Springfield Armory Trophy Match would be a good starting gun. I was wondering if anyone has any opinion on this weapon. Thanks in advance.

Why not use... an XD?

I shoot IDPA with an XD-9 Tactical, and I do pretty well with it.

I perfer IPSC/USPSA over IDPA because the rules are a little easier to deal with on the course of fire, imo.

I run an XD9 Tactical in Production Class in USPSA. If I were going 1911 I'd run Single Stack with my Springfield 1911.

I was told that the larger the caliber the better the score I will receive. I am new to competition shooting so I am learning as I go along. At this time I have only one gun, XD-45ACP Compact and I do not know how much wear and tear it will put on my gun to change sights when I wanted to shoot competitions. Any and all information is appreciated.

for IDPA you don't really need anything as fancy as a Tropy Match. I used to run a 1911 Commander, now I shoot with the XD45 Compact.

The great thing about IDPA is that there is no special or expensive equipment to buy, just a handgun, holster, and mag holder.

I'd suggest using a weapon you already have to start competing. If you really enjoy it, then look into getting a different handgun (if you feel you need it). Most people find that they enjoy it enough that they want to buy a 9mm for competing since the ammo is so much cheaper than a .45, (especially in the days to come with the ammo $$$ increase).
You can always upgrade weapons later, or just get a trigger job, new sights, etc on your exsisting weapon

I'll probably stick to the .45 since that's what I CCW. However, I have seriously considered downsizing to the 9mm to save on ammo $$$. I think I'd rather just take up reloading for the cost effectiveness.

You don't "NEED" any fancy equipment for USPSA either, esspecially in production class.

I went to 9mm from .40SW because the 9mm is a lighter recoil, thus easier to shoot which makes the scores go up.

I own an XD-45ACP Compact and would like to use that same weapon for competition. The trouble that comes to mind would be trading out sights for CCW and competition. I am sure if trading out sights would ruin the area where the sights go and the diffuculty level of trading out sights. At this time I am saving up to purchase a carbine since I already have a handgun. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I thought the scores where based upon caliber? When you shoot your 9mm do you use "special" loads or do you use regulare SD ammo?
