In the Market for a Small 1911
I respect the views of this forum and would like some advice from you guys.
I am in the market to buy a small 1911 pistol for conceal carry I went to the local gun shop and did some pistol fondling yesterday. I looked at the Kimber Ultra CDP II, a Kimber Aegis II 9mm, Kimber Ultra Carry II, the Kimber Ultra RCP II, the Kahr P45, and for comparison an XD 9 subcompact, a glock 26. I am leaning towards the Ultra CDP II. Does anyone have any experience with any of these pistols and any good or bad feed back they can give me. I would get the XD 9 sub compact but have a trigger job done and different sights put on it. I currently have an XD 45 tactical that will be my HD pistol and in the colder times of the year I could carry it in a shoulder rig under a coat but I want a smaller pistol to carry all year long. I have shot Kimbers before and liked them but I really like my XD. Any information you guys could pass on would be appreciated. Saggin Last edited by Saggin : 08-09-2007 at 04:07 AM. |

Sounds like you have already made a great decision to get the XD9SC and have a trigger job done on it. One thing about that choice is you will have two very similar guns that you are familiar shooting. If you are hell bent and bound on getting a 1911, for carry, of those you listed, the RCP II would be my choice. In my opinion, that is the ultimate carry pistol, with its sight trough and melt job. A buddy of mine has the original RCP (pre II version) and it is a hum dinger to shoot. His is very accurate, and with sight trough, target aquisition is so basic it is scary. He and I ran about 600 rounds through the gun a year ago. We had one malfunction somewhere around 470 rounds. We field stripped, cleaned and re-lubed the gun. whe then finished the other 130 rounds without any problems. I know that the sub 4" 1911's are notorious for having feeding problems, but the RCP seems to be one that is lacking in that problem.

Wish I could afford to even look at one of those.
Have you checked out the PA Warthogs yet?

You have the thinner VS the shorter. Your 4 inch single stack 1911's are the thinner gun, the XD being fat. The XD is the shorter gun having a shorter grip.
A fatter gun can be harder to carry IWB just because if your pants get tight, more gun is harder to get in your pants than less gun. The shorter gun will print less, as it's the end of the grip that usually prints, so the longer the grip the more potential for printing. Sounds to me like an even choice - you have your mind sorta made up - XD is gonna be way cheaper - which one do you shoot better?

I have a Kimber Ultra Carry II, highly recommend it. Very accurate and controllable for a 3 inch-barreled gun. I would recommend getting the version that comes with night sight and laser though.
