Seriously considering a 1911 ultra compact

I've had a BHP and liked it but it was too big and heavy. I've always liked the 1911, but the full size is just too much for me.

I'm thinking about getting a Springfield 1911 in the ultra compact size for CCW.

For those of you who have them, what do you think about them? How do you like them?

Pics are always welcome.

I like mine alot and its what I seem to carry most of the time these days.
Its an older Springfield model thats no longer made. Its the size of an "officer" model but its made with an alloy frame. The after market mags hold 7 +1 in the chamber.

How about something in the Commander length?

The only reason I say this is that when you start shrinking 1911s past this size, the reliability CAN go way down. Theres scads of posts on the 1911 forums about Officers sized 1911s having feeding problems. The smaller 1911s ARE getting better, but for all the money you will spend on the super small 1911, why chance the unreliability?

A friend of mine struggled with a nice looking Kimber CDP and I had fits with a Series 80 Colt Officers Model...I gave up on the tiny 1911s. They're not worth it.

How about one of the lightweight commander length guns? Maybe one of the ones that puts a Commander sized slide/barrel on an Officers size frame? Either ought to make a great CCW gun. I have even seen these in 38 Super - another attractive option.

What he says is true, for a long time they couldnt get small 1911's to run well. I must have lucked out though because mine has fed everything from SWC ammo to HUGE hollowpoints. If you have ever heard of the "flying ashtray" then you will know what I mean by big hollowpoints. I used to pin shoot with mine.

I would so carry a 1911 if I could get over the fear of not being able to thumb the safety while under stress. Single-stack magazines make the piece way thinner/easier to conceal.

How small are you looking to go?

I know 2 people that have the Springfield (I don't know what model), 6rd magazine and 3" barrel. They both work fine, with one using his for IDPA style shooting for practice. So, they can work, but as was said, there is a long history of them NOT working.

If price isn't to much of a problem. What about the SpringField EMP. I know it is a 9mm, But it is NOT a choped down full size like everybody elses compact 1911. The EMP is a completely new design of the compact 1911.

I've got the Springfield Micro Compact Lt. Wgt and couldnt be happier for a carry pistol. I now have over 1000 rds thru it and only in the first 100 did I get any stovepipes ( 3 ) but it has since been flawless. It feeds all different HP's Rangers Fed. HST's Gold Dots you name it and it feed them and eats em.
